Took the old engine out of the 6 over the weekend. Bought a replacement block and swapped everything over. I put the new engine back in with all current ancilleries, loom etc and now the car turns over and won't start.
The fuel pump isn't priming and the headlights start flashing after a while.

The car was sat for 8 months doing nothing at all and the battery in both the car and the key were removed. Does this mean that the key has lost its code therefore the car's immobilisor is stopping the pump from working??

Hopefully someone can help as slowly loosing my rag with it now!

Surely the pump should make a short noise when the ignition is switched on???

Cheers
Josh

in a similar situation myself, you have to wack the fuel cut off aka interia switch pretty good in order to get it to pop up and disconnect

interested to see how you get on Yes

Ok so i have tested the fuel pump relay and it is clicking when the ignition is switched on but still no fuel pump prime or spark?. I am now thinking maybe unlocked ECU to see if that will start it? Or just unlock the one i have??? What you think??

Russbez been following your threads and looked at a few others like this and it seems to be a common problem not being able to diagnose it. As per my other thread on here even Peugeot don't know what's wrong with it. The thing is i don't wanna replace all the sensors to then find it still won't work!!!

not sure about ecu mate, I tested mine on another rallye a few days ago, infact tested relay, inertia switch, fuel pump and ecu ; and it primed in his car.

from what i worked out from my f*cking horrid time in past week ; my problem seems to have been damaged loom, I move my fuel relay from one side of battery to the other = it starts working… put it back to where it should be sitting and the c*nt stops working.

earths:

earth wire coming out from engine loom (roughly located under thermostat housing which goes into a 13mm on the gearbox, the one closer to the bulkhead)

cable from negative battery terminal to gearbox earth, 50mm ish! away from above the earth

then same cable goes along to one of the two earthing points on chassis next to gearbox mount plate/housing thing.

earth cable from chassis loom, comes up from horn direction of the car, into engine the bay up to the earth point gearbox mount plate/housing.

earth coming from brake servo wiring, i put it into the earthing point closer to the battery mount

earth coming from engine loom, going onto starter motor (8mm)

and another earth going on to alternator (8mm)

drivers side near headlight

lives:

cable from battery goes to starter then to alternator

the alternator also has a cable attaching from the engine loom, this seems to power the double fuel relay (and possibly more)

pretty sure that comes from battery terminal has 2 lives going into the fuse box this seems to power lights + more etc

don’t take this as 100% correct, more like 99%
am off to go cry over my loom Yes

crank senors on gearbox?

thought, not priming i'd say ineria or fuel pump relay, or missing earth somewhere

any luck with yours yet Russ?

I was just about to start the transfer and put a f*ck my life status on facebook and a mate is coming round with his dad who has worked on Peugeot's for 50 years "apparently"! He claims he can definetly at least diagnose the issue.
If he does i'll let you know.
If he doesn't wish me more luck as i've just realised howmuch of a pig this is when the engine is in.
Did you do a new engine loom change dude?

You jammy git!! Lol i knew you'd beat me though!

In true "talk the talk" fashion nobody turned up so i have wasted time relying on someone else when i could have been out there doing it.

Good project thread though Russ she looks good dude. Out of interest i need to know 2 things:
1) When your ignition is on and you go to start the engine does the small red alarm light just below the fan blower on the left stay on when turning over or does it go out when you turn over?
2) How long did you sparky spend on the 6 and how much did it cost? also was he an Auto - electrician that was Peugeot specialist or just general?

I'm just looking at this loom i have and it looks like its been crushed a little.

Need a decent loom i can trust that works but cheap as i've thrown so much money at the 6 now its silly!

Well done though mate glad to hear its finally running after all that hard work.

I havent tried another relay dude only because its more money that i have to give to a peugeot dealer, however i did do the relay test with a multi meter as per the FAQ on here and it seems fine.
I'll change the loom and then if that doesn't work i'll try that next! If i have any money left!

Well i changed the loom and now have a running car! God knows why as they both look exactly the same but now it primes sparks and runs.
Really annoying as this has taken ages to fix!
Just goes to show that even though the loom looked ok doesn't always mean that it is!!
