Quick one...

What is the best amount of gearbox oil to add?

I've seen 2.1L mentioned by a lot of people, but also heard that only filling with 2L is better.

The gearbox oil I am going to use is this stuff from Peugeot:

Total Transmission Bv 75w80

The last time I changed the box oil nothing came out of the level check, so I stopped at 2.5L (probably to do with angle of my garage and car). I would prefer to put in a measured amount.

As I see is common, my box is bit notchy going into second, especially when cold. What is the best amount of oil make these changes smoother and achieve the best longevity of my gearbox?

Thanks

best stuff is the Peugeot supplied stuff.

2.1 litres is the capacity of a gti6 box, though typically you wont get 2.0 in because it takes quite some time for the oil to drain out, also most people don't drain fully from the drain plug anyway.

you do need the vehicle to be on flat ground whilst filling up, so if your car was jacked up on the left hand side I'm not surprised you got 2.5 litres in last time LOL

if its still a bit notchy it could either be clutch drag or a worn synchro.

I'd imagine there would be a 2 litre puddle on the floor if you did that.

check the level plug Wink

Glad i found this thread. I put i 2.5 litres today (max as per Sevice FAQ) and wondered if i'd done something wrong. I usually do. And this time it's because I didn't wait 10 mins for oil to come out the level plug. I guess next time i go for a drive and everything is nice and warm i'll remove it and see what comes out.

Handily putting the car on the cyclone (mine are old and tatty) gives a nice level car.

The be3/6 is 2.5l the 5 speeds are 2.0 but you aren't normally able to drain out all the oil, but the correct way with a manual pea box is fill until it comes out the level plug on a level surface (cold), coming from a friend of my mind who has been a pug dealership tech since before the 306 was new lol
