Ok so below you can see the pic. But you might also be able to make out just underneath the oil filler cap all the horrible crappy oily staining and a tiny little pool of oil right under the cap on the joint. I wiped it away and it came back. So obviously there is a leak, but I'm not sure what exactly need to be done.

The engine doesnt sound the best, so am also thinking it needs something major sorting out, pistons/guides maybe...

Could anyone give me any good news regarding this? Sad

Ok so according to some other threads, it looks like it is just the cam covers that need resealing. Unsure

Is this a DIY jobby or a garage jobby?

Yup just looks like a small leak from a cam cover. Whip them off clean them all up / remove the old gasket, then put some instant gasket all around cam covers back on to 80% torque, leave for a couple of hours then torque them up fully.

Thanks mate, was hoping it was just that. Just need a torque wrench now and to find what torque they go for!

Is there anything else worth checking out whilst the covers are off?

Thanks.

So the torques HERE show 10Nm for the cam covers. Just to confirm this is correct for our cars?

So, tweak then to 8Nm, leave for a few hours and then put them up to 10Nm!?

Danke

Forgot to ask, what would you use to clean them up properly?

Merci

Ok, so I still need to get this sorted, just keep forgetting to do it, so will hopefully be getting down to it soon!

When refitting the covers, is it good practice to use a new set of bolts, or will the old ones suffice?

Also, I have heard of tightening them up in a spiralling pattern, is that correct or am I getting confused with something else? And how exactly do you do that? Unsure

Anything else to consider whilst I'm there?

Ta

Steve

Unsure

Remove the old gasket?

No chance I would do that, have u seen how much sealer you need to use if you remove the gasket that is bonded to the covers?

Once the orig gasket is removed there is a massive gap between cover and cam carrier, right bodge using sealet in a gap that big IMO.

Just clean up old gasket with petrol on a rag then use a thin smear of sealer when refitting.

Not keen on Hylomar myself.

I always use gasket maker type stuffWink

Got some at the minute that is silver/aluminium colour,so can't really see it compared to the orange/blue that some people use!LOL

Pro seal Aluminium sealer

I have now done this very thing! Yes

Just need to source a wrench that has a low enough torque range! Have been tempted to just make do without one and just "feel" when its right, but think I should do it properly LOL

you'll need to be careful with those RTV stuff,
too much and it can yanked inside, i prefer the original gasket and happy with Permatex gasket remover spray .

Have managed to change these over today and I noticed that one of the new covers has an extra hole to screw something into which the original ones didn't Erm?

Not sure what its for as it doesn't go right through the cover

Anyone know why its there?

There are two types because they originally planned to run the fuel pipes over the cam covers.
