Hi just purchased a 306 Gti 6 non runner as it turned out it had snapped the woodruff key on the exhaust cam and all the valves etc where fine and tested and second hand cams fitted out of a spare head i had which was a snapper, put a head gasket waterpump etc etc on it fired it up and it was tappy so bein as i had a spare head removed those tappets and replace with spares once fully cleaned out.Still tapping changed the injectors as they are known to be noisy on these still no difference the car rum smoothly and pulls everyway it should, sailed through the emitions.Any ideas guys???been told these engine are relativly tappy any way?Awaiting replys |

It could have some slightly bent valves. The double springs mean that they still seal so it will run fine (until it eventually drops a valve) ________________________________________ Ex SC-6Now in a Megane R26 |

new tappets will not solve it.a knock would not damage them, just think what happens several thousand times a minute as the camshaft spins above the tappet..... BANG BANG BANG BANG as for how long a bent valve will last before the head drops off, how long is a piece of string? some have done no more than a few hundred miles, some tens of thousands, in each case the result is pretty terminal, giving you a pretty expensive and bloody heavy paperweight ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

BENT VALVE!!! Sorry matey as i've just found out to my expense it will be a bent valve no question, and personally i'd just fix it and save yourself a lot of heartache, do the job yourself it'll give a lot of satisfaction and save ya a few quid in the long run, just my 2p's worth! ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! mr_2807 wrote: Its identifying the valve or valves, space and tools to do so also, how much did it set you back? cheers for the reply Well i figured ut which valves using a screwdriver against the head... old school style and this was backed up by Carl AKA mechanical repairs when i told him what i'd done to make it happen in the first place, the car is still in pieces at the moment in my drive but i'm in no rush as its for track use only, but i reckon when its finished sortin out the tap will have probs cost ~ 100-150 tops because i'm doin it myself, the other option is get ya hands on a known good head and fit that? *Edit* I suppose i am at an advantage as i have access to a workshop in work as i am a field service engineer on Gas powered engines so there is a good place to actually do the work on the head, however i would tackle it in my houshold garage (if i had one!) ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber! thinks that what my best option is as i know of a xsara VTS recently wrote off,Only thing puzzling me would the valve guide not crumble instantly and if the valves where bent even slightly and if the vavlves are bent would they not be well and truly f##kd and visible??poored petrol down the ports whent the head was off and it didnt leak one bit all looked fine... |

No the valves may well not be visably bent, but believe me there will be some bent.... just the bends are so slight not detectable to the naked eye! Mad i know but thats all it takes! *edit* Read This Thread Should explain it better! ________________________________________ Team Running Engine again!Team Negative Camber!
