Well as some of you have read etc, i ended up buying the blue Rallye from ebay, thought i would post up a mini project thread so you can actually see what i put into these cars.

Bought it for £1045 and £100 worth of diesel to collect it from the end of the world (well it felt like that after a day of work)

Got it back to the garage and removed the cylinder head (its a snapper)

Removed the head and found all 16 valves bent and four guides damaged, 16 valves, 4 guides and 16 valves seats to re cut.

Damage pic-

Also the bodywork is pretty crap at the minute, the front end is battered in stone chips and some of the chips are huge, lower bumper is scuffed and generally looks awfull, as well as the front end needing to be fully painted the o/s/r quarter has some odd dents so this will need to be repaired and repainted, total paint cost £550.

Paint work photos-

Good points for me are it has a full tank of fuel and tax till the end of the year and also its blue so when looking mint it should attract a rallye lover.

Will update as the work commences.
Carl

There is no real knack to it mate i just get in there and get em undone, not particularly hard to do but this bugger had some rusty bolts on it.

Its readily available Jim, got a litre today, just a standard shade normally found on the base spec cars.

Well spent some time on this over the weekend and yesterday, its now alive again.

Went and had the head all skimmed and the valve seats recut so once back at the garage I can continue to finish it off, once all back together it was put back onto the block.

Head as it came back all nice and fresh-

I then proceded to put it all back together and fgorget to take progress pictures, doh

Well once it was all back together and the filters and fluids changed she fired into life, got it up to temp and decided to takle the brakes and peeling wheels.

Decided the colour choice for the caliper would be silver, was going to go red but dicided against it in the end, this is what we have fitted.

Time to get these old wheels off-

Got the new ones sorted-

The front brakes are fine and will go again as the pads and disc's are not that old-

New calipers fitted and a clean up of the disc's-

Rear brakes were shot and required replacing-

After new brakes and a clean up-

With a fresh refurbished wheel on it looks great-

Now the car has been shipped off to the body shop, this has to be the worst bit for me as i have to pay someone else to do it.

Will get the updated pictures on as it rolls out.

Carl

Fair play, the previous owner obviously didn't look after, or maybe it's because it has been sat a while?

Looking good so far Carl. This will be lovely when it's done, although I still don't like the blue, maybe in person it's a nicer shade?
