Argh f*cking argh, spent the day cleaning the engine bay and thought "you know what, let's paint some bits".

All went swimmingly as you can see from these before and after shots:

Until I put it all back together. On first crank fuel started p*ssing out of the regulator and I realised i hadn't put the circlip in, and then i noticed fuel coming out of one of the injectors.

Took the fuel rail off to put the injectors back in properly, replaced a couple of o-rings again and put it all back together.

Now when it starts, it chases up to 2000rpm and drops back to idle like a pulse. The throttle is uber sensitive with the car seemingly thinking WOT as actually at ¼ throttle.

Took the throttle body apart and checked and cleaned all the sensors and it made no difference. Everything's plugged back in where it should be, except for one plug you can see in the video. Don't think it was plugged in to anything before but it's got me wondering.

From the way the car's acting it sounds like an electrical fault to me with the TPS seeming to be the most likely culprit for the weird throttle but I dunno, maybe you guys can suggest something?

Here's a video of the revs chasing at idle

Video

And some random thing I found on the floor, don't even know if it's off the car?

Hmm inlet manifold gasket maybe? Replaced it the first time i had it off, then used a combination of the new filter and gasket sealant the second time.

All the other hoses are on tight, what's confusing me is the throttle response. Would an air leak cause it to be over-sensitive?

LOL nah i may be a muppet but i know how to do a cable. Butterfly closes fully with just a tiny amount of slack on the cable. It's like the TPS is reading the resistance totally wrong.

Doh just thought, I had to take the manifold off AGAIN to fix the fuel rail leaks and forgot to reapply sealant!

Fingers crossed it's a quick 30 minute fix tomorrow morning or i'm using public transport for the first time in months LOL

Nope, I have new tools and supplies, jobs are getting done much more "properly" now. And easier too. Could probably dress yours up in about 3 hours now I know my way around the ancillaries Smile

Don't worry, i'm still a pikey at heart. I used an o-ring off the hosepipe to seal the fuel pressure regulator Laugh my ass off
