Hello people,

Is there any ways of finding out if a part is genuine? For example if I was to buy a cylinder head that had been port/polished by Richard, how would I know he had done it?

Thanks

So don't trust them unless they have a receipt?

Even so, he could have a receipt, but have 2 heads. Sell me a standard one, and keep the Longman one to himself?

Have a look at the ports? You should be able to easily tell the difference between a standard and modified head at the very least as the standard one will have the rough sand-cast finish still Wink Does'nt mean it's definitely a Longmans head but you will know it's not a standard one for sure.

Did'nt most of them have a little plate on them with a number?

I thought there was a plate or something. Oh I can definately tell its been ported/polished, but I can't tell if it was by Richard or not.

On the inlet side, top right, there is a 4 digit serial number. Downside is, it was written on with permanent pen Doh

if theres no way of proving who did the work then buy it on the grounds that its a ported head, and not a specific persons modified one

I've PMd CJM with a number for contacting Longmans old engine builder, he should be able to authenticate this and clear up any doubts Wink

AFAIK they only stamped competition stuff. Any retail work won't be stamped.

I have a Longman head that has no serial number or markings.
