Hey fellas, haven't even had chance to fiddle with the torsion bars 'cos i can't get the fecking ARB end plates off. I've been using an M12 x 1.75 bolt as recommended, the bolt was put in straight on, and... the end plates got threaded on both sides. Brilliant. Kinda sets the tone for the TB's i guess...

But anyway, is there anything else i can do now? Or is all hope lost?

I use a peugeot bolt, normally works never tried a ford bolt. Never stripped the threads though.

The thread is m12 x 1.5. I usually use a slide hammer to get them off, seems to work better for me than the 'winding a bolt in' method

Anyhow Jack the car up, remove both wheels, undo both arb end plate bolts (m8/13mm). Get a 10mm punch and put it through one of the knackered m12 holes then smack it with a big hammer until it pushes the arb out. It may bugger the top of the m8 thread up in the arb but you should be able to dress it up and chase the thread out.

wrong bolt fail Doh

I would fit an M8 bolt into the threads of the ARB on the Right hand side, and knock the ARB out of the end plate.

find an end plate fropm a scrappy and replace the R/H one (you dont take the left hand one off ever so no need to replace it)

all zx/xsara/306 end plates are the same, but specific left to right.
