Long ago, back in 2004 some time, I did this in my tuned 306Hdi:

at Knockhill, organised by a Peugeot club.
Enjoyed it immensely and wanted to do more, but didn't want to risk trashing my daily drive.
A year or so before, I bought this for my then girlfriend (now wife):

We chose the 1.4 as she was only 19 at the time and needed something cheap to insure. When she got bored of it, and decided to buy a new car, in 2005 I got it back, and it looked like this:

And it promptly failed its MOT on just about every bush and balljoint in the front suspension!
So I decided (perhaps foolishly?) that it would make an ideal base for a track car project and signed up on this forum to look for ideas, advice and secondhand parts. I decided that the car still had to be practical enough to use on the road too, should my daily car ever let me down as I have a fairly long commute to work.
While looking out for bargain parts, I busied myself making the car look more presentable by spraying all the black trim on the exterior in Graphite Grey, and the upper part of the front and rear bumpers white:

The rear drum beam was scrapped and replaced with a disc axle from a Gti6, and front brake setup also from a six.
Began stripping of the interior:

Then, nearly 2 years later, due to things like getting married and becoming a dad, I had finally accumulated all the other major parts I thought I needed, some new but most secondhand.
Bucket seats and harness, Ebay bargains:

Gti6 engine conversion, using 205 1.9 Gti 5speed gearbox with Quaife ATB diff. Oil cooler and uprated oil pump.
Front subframe from Gti6 including ARB, Gaz dampers with Eibach springs, rear beam lowered:

Oil temp, oil pressure and water temp gauges to fill the headunit slot (who needs a stereo on track?)

In 2007 my wife gave me CF doorcards for Christmas:

Then the oil cooler burst, so fitted a replacement. Whilst the bumper was off, I tidied up the paintwork and de-rusted underneath:

Also meshed up the front bumper where slats had had to be cut away to accommodate the oil cooler hoses:

I had acquired a set of rusty steel rims:

which I had sandblasted, and painted up. Fitted with Yokohama Parada2:

The car was well used in the snow at the start of this year thanks to the diff!

Whereas my other car ended up:

The most recent development is the fitting of a bespoke rollcage, which brings this project up to the current date. Many thanks to the FAQ guide without which I would never have managed to get the dash out!

Opted to have the seatbelts retained to give the option of a child seat for road use:

Should get the car back this weekend to start painting cage and refitting interior. Will update with further progress as it happens.
All comments welcome Wave

The child seat fits very snugly in the passenger bucket seat with the standard 3 point belt. Its a booster seat really, for my eldest daughter who is nearly 4

I did think of that possibility, since I now have two children, and a car with only two seats..... They'll just have to take turns!

Still need to take some pics of the engine. I've got rocker covers that I'm painting up, and a spare inlet manifold getting polished, if I ever get the time!
Civic in the background belongs to the guy that's doing the cage for me.

Excellent work fella, I know all too well the frustration of building a project as funds allow, well done for sticking with it Smile

Quick update: Etch primered, then first lick of paint on the rollcage. Dash back in (much easier than getting it out, though it did take some time trimming out all the bits to fit around the front hoop)

Another update: mostly painting! Finished scraping the tar sound deadening from rear footwell and painted with Hammerite smooth (2-3 coats). Still driver's side to do, mind.....

I'd be a little concerned by the lack of side impact protection with that cage. Only one door (Which is fine) bar that seems to be very low down in the car.Unsure

I did deliberately ask for the door bar to be low to ensure clearance for the armrests on the doorcards and so it's not a complete nuisance to climb in and out of the car. Both doors still have their full internal strengthening, nothing's been cut away.

Fair doos, looks like it's coming along well. When are you hoping to be on track next?

Would be nice to get a track session this summer, depending on funds, as I would really need to get a set of tyres just for track on my spare set of rims first.

My first preference would be for an open pit club day, but I don't know of any organised at Knockhill this year so far, so may end up being a Speed Sunday if can talk the wife into letting me go :p
