Hey Guys, I searched through many 'tapping' threads but nothing sounded similar sorry - I noticed my '98 GTI-6 has started making a harsh tapping noise Upon idle and reving up it sounds fine , but give it a lil rev up to say 3500rpm then as it drops back down this is when it makes its noises?..same when driving, sounds fine when accelerating through the gears, but as soon as you decelerate to change back down so the noise appears. It is not the same sound tapping as you commonly hear on old Fiesta or Ka's, its a bit harsher???

I have recently had the head skimmed,a new head gasket and head rebuilt with new spring things, as that was being done i asked them to also change timing, aux belts, filters etc...

The guys have looked into the noise but say they really dont know the cause and ensure me it cant be anything they have done, can anyone help me here ?

As Stan has said there could be a few causes of the 'tapping' noise from the engine.
