hello one and all. i am thinking of lowering my 6, and was wondering how low some of you are, or weather its not worth bothering. i have lowered cars in the past so i know the benefits. although the 6 is very good on the road it does seem a little vague. any help or advice will be greatly apprecitated________________________________________ They may take my crayonsbut they'll never have my windows |

35mm is generally the preferred drop for handling, but I've just done mine about 60mm front and 50mm rear, mainly for looks.Tbh just replace all suspension parts for new o.e. items if it's handling you want, chances are your suspension is a little tired... ________________________________________ Bye bye Sundance Kid |

60mm....terrible ride height, dont do it unless you get shocks and dampers to go with the lowering springs.________________________________________ EX Bianca 6 owner,Now drives: Octavia vRS |

As already said, between 30 - 40mm is normally a good amount without compromising handling. Also, as already said, renew any exisint tired suspension components first if you just want to improve the handling generally. How many miles has your car done and do you know any of its history regarding suspension works? My car is lowered about 40mm at the rear, and about 50 - 60mm at the front iirc, but im running a heavily modified suspension setup for track usage. ________________________________________ Long live the Sigma 6Team Phase 1 supercharged XBL ID: farmer uk1 |

ball jointstrack rod ends wishbones top mounts and bearings rear beam mounts rfront and rear shocks springs drop links the list goes on haha. if you're getting shocks and springs to lower it, it'd be worth new drop links, tre's and ball joints to make the most of them as at 114k any extra stress could make them go bang, and new rear beam mounts and updated shocks should tighten up the back considerably ________________________________________ Bye bye Sundance Kid |

Agree with both of the above. Also, front ARB bushes too for the replacement list. Chris, when you say you like a bit of rake, how do you mean? Is that the back end higher then the front? If so, im inclined to agree with you. I can pretty much force my car to break traction on the rear as and when I want and feel right up to the limit, and its (so far) been completly controlable every time! I have had other setups whereby the back end would just snap without warning and there was no recovering from it. Love the way it is now, can barrel into a corner / roundabout and put it sideways and pull out of it ________________________________________ Long live the Sigma 6Team Phase 1 supercharged XBL ID: farmer uk1 |

Back should be 10mm higher than the front (if tyres are the same adjust accordingly up to 15 mm higher if fronts are worn) regardless of how low a car sits ... 'unless' you want a purely fast corner track monster 9which would drive like a dog around town) and then you might want the front and rear jacking point heights the same. |

craigy_87 wrote: i've replaced most of the suspension stuff just need to replace the main bit new shocks an springs not sure who i'll get to do the beam though The beam is'nt too hard to do with basic tools, why not have a go yourself? You will need a long tube or drift (at least as long as the beam) to remove the inner bearing races. Apart from that, a slide hammer and a feeler guage, the usual car tool kit covers all the fixings you are likely to encounter. ________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies.
