Can I fit an unlocked 1998 GTI6 ECU in place of a Xsara VTS ecu.

I know that the xsara VTS imobaliser uses a chip on the key, but will the unlocked GTI6 unit just ignore this, and is all the other wiring the same for the 2 units.

unplug the xsara vts transponder unit and it'll be fine.

Thanks for the quick response.
I assume you mean the connector on the plastic ring around the ignition switch.

naah, the transponder unit not the aerial for it, on a 306 its hidden in the dash just above the front of the centre console.
