Just a few quick questions about drop links..

Just picked up some struts off ChrisD306, and my rear shocks are arriving next week. I'm doing everything properly, new bolts, nuts etc etc, and from the state of the drop links on the car already i'm gonna have to cut them off.

Which leads me to my first question.. metal or plastic?

Secondly, i read somewhere that longer ones are better? Searching leads me to believe 206 drop links are slightly longer and they mean the balljoints sit at a better angle, making them last longer. Anyone care to explain why? Can't get my head round it. And if longer are better, any suggestions other than 206 ones?

And thirdly.. no, i won't be buying some rose jointed ones LOL

LOL
You need to keep the arb perpendicular to reduce the forces and angles the joints are going through - if you lower the car, that means that ideally longer droplinks are required to reduce the wear and tear.

And the plastic droplinks are stiffer than the metal ones Yes

Hmm interesting, i guess because the plastic ones have a higher elastic property so they're less likely to bend out of shape than the metal ones?

Had a look at 206 ones but the balljoints both face the same way so i guess they're no good. Any straight swaps anyone knows of?

In fact got a spreadsheet here, all Xsara's are listed at 306mm, same as 306's.

The ZX 2.0 16v ones are listed as 375mm.

Phillip/welshpug etc etc.. if the front geometry is being lowered by ~60mm, would an increase in drop link length of approximately the same keep the geometry in check? Or is it not that simple?

ARGH

the ZX ones aren't S-shaped like 306 ones. Gutting, they would have been ideal.

However the C4 picasso ones are the same shape and 340mm. Might make a trip to a motorfactors tomorrow with my tape measure LOL

Ideally you want to bin the front arb anyway so don't bother going to too much hassle.

If you're keeping similar length dampers then I'd go about halfway - i.e 30mm for a 60mm drop, as you're still going to have a lot of droop travel.

Hmm not 100% sure on damper length, they'rg-max supersport dampers suitable for use with standard springs, so at a guess i'd say standard length Dunno

The C4 ones should be ok then, 34mm longer / 60mm drop, assuming they have the same bolts?
