Was out for a run in the 6 yesterday and was having a bit fun with a type r... until the engine went BANG! Got it back to the local garage and was told its probably a big end bearing and/or the crankshaft. Gutted.

The engine has done 90k. Can't decide if a rebuild would be worth it, or do I look for a reconditioned engine? I have no idea what rebuilds cost, so just looking for a point in the right direction.

Cheers

(Didn't realise how quick type r's were, its was mental!)

"probably" is not a good enough reason to pull an engine apart. do checks first; what have they done to establish that diagnosis?

The mechanic was just speaking from experience and mentioned it could be the crankshaft big end. I've got the car at home now, are there any ways I can check to see what the problem is for definate? I thought it sounded like a bent valve to start with, but the noise seems to be coming from deep in the engine.

The car starts fine usually, but sometimes the engine jams when turning over. When it's started there are no noises when idling and it idles fine. But as soon as you give it revs a knocking noise starts, and harder you rev the louder it gets.

Any ideas?

What do you plan to do? Rebuild? I can't make up my mind what to do.

depends on what money i get coming in Razz

if i manage to sell a beam or 2, and the guy ^^^^^ still has an engine available, i'll buy that.

but as i'm in no real rush to get it done, i'll bide my time Big grin
