how can i convert the hydraulic fork on ml5t gearboxes to cable? ive been looking for ages and cant see any logical way of doing it...

you cant just change the arm over because it doesnt have an arm, its hydraulic so works off a cylinder and hoses etc.

cheers

Can you not just drive a hydraulic master cylinder with the cable?

I'll just see if I can find the pic.

that doesnt make sense. The end thats bolted to the cable arm is the end that pushes the fork isnt it?

im struggling to see how the fork can be pushed in the right direction to push the release bearing into the pressure plate?

It needs to go like this (up at bearing end, hence pushing bearing onto the pressure plate, and down at the other end.

i cant see how this is achieved when the hydraulic thing doesnt even connect to it (even originally) it just sits in a ball sort of thing...

the best way to go is convert the pedal box to hydraulic, too many parts to flex, break and go wrong combining the both. I converted a mk2 escort pedal box from cable to hydralic and it wernt to bad to do. If you have to fabricate parts anyway then why not fabricate the pedal box to make it all hydralic

whip the pedal box out of the car and have a look, there will be plenty of fabbies that will have a look at it for you, best to rob the master cylinder from the 406 too and have a look if you can use that

Laugh my ass off

you just said how they work LOL

unfortunately there's feck all space to do it with the turbo engine in there as IIRC the Turbo sits pretty damn close to the brake servo as it is, the outlet of the turbo I think is right where you'd want to put a Clutch Master Cylinder Doh

unless you mount the master cylinder in the cabin working from the top part of the pedal.

check my fecking awesome Photobucket skillz

LOL

i hate hydraulics aswell Razz

i know it pulls the bearing out, but i cant see how that disengages the clutch?

could i not simply rig up an arm to the gearbox casing that accepts a cable type, then connect that to a pole which pushes the fork down hence pulling the bearing away?

ill do a paint sketch in a min and show wat i mean.

easier to pin the clutch fork to the shaft, then extend the shaft out through the top bush and make an arm to go on the top.

then attach the inner cable to the engine and the outer cable to the lever to work jsut like a gti6 pull clutch.

that just came to me now, can't think why nobody has done it yet either LOL

easy enough to get some high pressure small bore hydraulic hose made up to suit.

ive already thought of that, but unfortunately theres no space because of the cable gear arms which are near enough directly over where the shaft would be extended out Sad

in cabin way would be too much effort and moneys. i want a cheap solution Wink

check this mofos

no chance, there is a serious amount of force required to operate a clutch and that will flex and break, why not concentrate on doing the job properly. If you ae going to the lengths of fitting that box why are you falling short on the clutch side of it

maybe Hmm pretty much how a BE1 box works actually LOL

oh, and as for the cable linmkages, there is enough room, that's how AdamB and Goliath sorted theirs, adam's needs a little more perfecting, not sure about Georges one.

yeah thats where i got the idea from, i have a be1 sitting on the floor next to it lol.
i dont see why it wouldnt work if its all bolted on well and made from decent material etc. the be1 boxes are much more flimsy looking and still work fine.

they do have a much weaker pressure plate than the ML5 though.

agreed, but if i reinforce it enough will it see me good until i have time to properly set it up using hydraulics etc? its only got to last a short trip down a38 and a rolling road session to prove the power output then it can stay on drive until i have time to fig around with hydraulics.
