Right, have had a good search on the forum and can't seem to find this issue, so apologies if it's been asked already.

My brother has a '98 6, his mechanic seems to think it has a misfire. I disagree, but would appreciate some advice. Engine is very smooth, pulls well, but, it does shake around a bit on idle. I don't think it's that excessive, but it shakes the exhaust around like a goodun', which makes it annoying when idling in traffic etc.

But as far as I know, if it was misfiring, it wouldn't pull as well as it does. The exhaust is brand new, 2 weeks old, and it didn't do the shakey shakey before, it's just developed gradually since it was fitted.

I think he needs to get it back to the garage and get it back on a ramp, is there anything he should be looking for other than the bvious, ie loose mounts etc.

Cheers

honestly couldn't say right now. cleaned the icv and map sensor today so did a reset, therefore only saw it on idle before we took it out for a drive. he has now f*cked off out while i try and figure out his problem so will have a look when/if he returns.

i take it excessive movement=engine mounts seen better days?

coilpack would be if its misfiring...but if engine still pulls well and sounds ok, is it a misfiring engine?

guess its worth checking coil pack resistances still.
