Im going to get some locking catches to fit as my bonnet catch is caput, Now theres two types

Theres the 2100 ones which fit to just the underside and use rivits or screws ontop the bonnet to hold on

Underneath

And theres the newer 3100 that Look like they fit on top of the bonnet

Ontop

The difference is the 1st are 30odd and the others are 60odd,

Are there any major advantages and anyone got any pics of fitting them??

Thanks

ive not got pics of fitting them, but ive got the 2nd 1's you posted, there a c*nt to fit like, as you have to cut through double skinned bit of the bonnet, easy enough just takes a little while, i used a drill, air hack saw and a air 1" grinder made a neat job, was ment to take pics as i done it but didnt, instructions are easy to follow that come with them.

Don't get the first ones as it would have to be cut perfect and the the edge painted to protect from rust

pins are on the slam panel easy enough, i took pics for phil but couldnt find my camerea to send them to him before i came away offshore, so cant help with photos, i wouldnt try it with a dremal as the cutting discs are shite tbh, but im sure there is people that will off done it with them, but ive tried cutting metal with dremals before an is w*nk, either discs shatters/snaps or you use millions!!

+1 have gone through a good few cut off discs before resorting to the angle grinder! (not on the bonnet mind)

unless you have a small angle grinder you wont cut these out easily, ive got a really small 1 for using when doing tricky bits on silkls and that, if i didnt have that i dont know how i would of done it

The single skin part is easy its if you put them through a double skin bit its a pain in the arse.

jigsaw and air hack saws run the risk of it catching and bending the bonnet or rippling it, thats what i read anyway, i drilled holes then air hack saw, then i cleaned up with the grinder and a small file, just take your time with it be ok.

I've got these on my 106 Rallye.

I too went for the top mounted ones for fear of being able to get a clean cut through the bonnet. Personally I think they're better that way anyway as the lip doesn't mean such a load on the little bolts and less chance of the bonnet flipping open!

I used a Dremel to fit them; cut away the inner skin first, used a holesaw to open up the widest part, then the Dremel to cut around the traced outline on the bonnet.

Poor little Dremel got a bit hot, but given a few breaks to cool down again it did the job admirably.

There done!!!

Only took about 4 hours from start to finish, including some much pain staking adjusting and readjusting.

I used the bonnet rubber hole to mount the Pin into as it was the perfect size and ment the clips were away from the very edge of the bonnet, this also worked out good for the clips as it was away from all the parts that the second skin fixs to the top part with.

Marked and drilled thought from underneath, then used the hole to make the crosslines from the template.

Taped the template down on one side then measured it to get the other side in exactly the same position. Then drilled holes all around the edge of the template.

Used the holes to mark underneath and a grinder to put the inner skin out.

Used a Jigsaw to vut around the profile thought the holes and filed the edges down and popped the catches in.

I had a disagreement with the crappy allen screws supplyed in that they just rounded off before the nut got anywhere near the top so i used some pop rivits instead.

Very please and as you can see the grills back on Big grin Be it with a phase 1 bumper
