Hi all. I am new to this forum and this is my first post.
Amazed by the superb handling of the 306 back in uni days I bought a used 1998 model GTI 6 in May last year. All has gone well except minor issues such as fuel leak and transmission fluid leak from the lower pipe out of the transmission fluid reservoir. However, there is one issue that remains. My car's driver side front end makes this loud squeaky

Are you sure its the front end as it could well be the beam? Could be a knackared damper I guess that lubricates itself aftrer going over the humps.

Also a small point but there isn't a transmission fluid pipe or reservoir on these cars. Probably power steering leak Smile

Welcome to the forum by the way Thumbs up

Thank you for your reply. Could I have the technical name of this 'beam' you referred to (if any) so that i can tell this to the machanic on my next visit. Yes i mean the power steering reservoir. Got too carried away cos tranmission fluid goes in there.
Thanks.

Also to add. I am almost certain that the noise is from the front driver side if that adds to anything.

The rear beam is the suspension crossmember under the boot of the car that the trailing arms attach to.

Hi all, I've posted a video to capture (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A9yv2Mcr8w) the noise as it happens. As you can see and hear, the car went over the speed hump in less than 10Km/h and occurs when the front wheel is pushed upward by the speed hump. It immediately goes away afterward. I hope this will better describe the situation. Any suggestion on what is causing this noise is much welcomed. Thank you.

Has your front damper got any signs of an oil leak?
It sounds very much like a damper that's short on oil from that, I'd double check the front wishbone bush is torqued right up too though.
