Quick update, as it's been a week or so...

Going back on it next week, got a reading week Big grin

The runabout has been playing up so that's going, either getting a 106 1.5D or a 306 DTurbo by the looks of things.

Anyway, gunna have to take the engine out to work on it at dad's workshop, any tips on dropping it out? It's just the block, so I think I can drop it out the bottom. Does anyone recommend removing the front end?

Cheers lads!

I bolted half an engine crane on with the head bolts and took it out from the top. But you can also drop the subframe off and go down if you prefer.

We have lots of progress!

The old engine is out and the new engine is in!

I bought the new engine off someone breaking a Xsara VTS on eBay, had to change the loom. Also broke the gearbox when I unneededly took it apart and broke a selector, this is for sale if anyone wants it to fix another gearbox (62k miles).

Thanks go to mechanical_repairs (a.k.a Carl) for the gearbox!

Should have the blighter running on Friday when I can afford some oil, going for Halfords 10w40 semi-synth as I've read on here it's rebranded Comma oil.

Pics will be up when I get home, at work at mo!

IT RUNS! Hyper Hyper

After getting the engine in and sorting out all the wiring/pipes/crazy shit we couldn't get it to spark, turned out that I had forgotten to put the crank angle sensor on the gearbox!

It runs fine now though, sounds like a hot rod with no exhaust (except for the manifold), but we've got some issues to sort out. Anyone have any ideas on these?

1. The clutch pedal does almost nothing. It is about an inch from the floor, and it only just moves the arm on the gearbox. I'm guessing seized adjuster, if so can these be fixed or is it a new cable?

2. The clutch slips like hell, you can hardly put any power down! I think it might just be something on the plate, but what else could it be? (This is happening with the cable disconnected from the gearbox)

Once I've got all the niggles sorted, plus tax, test and insurance sorted, it'll be on the road!

Matty.

PS: I never said in my last post that I ended up buying a new engine! It was from a company near London on eBay, out of a Xsara VTS. 59k, cost
