Right got another 6 with a slight fault - very hard to start when it's cold and has an occasional missfire when running, and the engine management light flashes occassionaly too. CPS? CTS? Headgasket? what else? |

Just leave the engine running and then unplug each individual coil pack one at a time. If the engine starts to struggle with a coil pack unplugged then that one isn't faulty. If you unplug one and nothing happens then it is probably the culprit. Hopefully some of that will make sense. It's a free and simple check so it might be worth a try. |

more info:We tried to read the fault but the engine lamp goes out before it can be read and it does not appear to store a code. We replaced the idle control valve and remade the poor vacuum pipe connections. The car runs fine when it does run, we did a full track day with it as it is and tried various things throughout the day. It has plenty of pull and runs smoothly when the engine lamp is out, there is no smoke or uneven running to suggest low compression and as I say, it does go too well to suggest a compression issue. It does tend to be worse at idle, when running from 2k revs + it's rarely has an issue. |
