Thought it was about time I did one of these...

Previously owned a mint Dturbo...

When I came back from travelling last year, I decided I wanted to get something faster, so started looking at gti6's and rallye's.

I found a Rallye up in Halifax, so drove up there (4 hours!!) and ended up leaving a deposit to collect a week later. During the week I sold the old Dturbo aka Tomato, so at the weekend I headed upto Halifax on the train to collect it.

This is how it looked...

It had a few goodies on; lightened flywheel, powerflow cat back exhaust, braided lines front and rear, piperX induction kit & black angel eye headlights.

Couple of weeks later I got it RR'd so I had a figure I could compare to after future work.

It made 162.2bhp ATF, 133bhp ATW and 146 ft/lb. I was happy with this result, but the fueling was a bit iffy on the graph due to the lambda.

After this I bought some crystals, clear side repeaters and new lambda sensor!!

Not long after, I went to santa pod with Clara, Adam and Pete to see what she could do..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nqmOsHJOV0k

My best time was 16.07 @ 88.49mph. This was an OK result considering the awful weather conditions throughout the day and I came away knowing that it could be easily bettered the next time.

I bought some steelies from ebay for

Good work! Start saving for some better suspension and brakes, although the weight loss from the interior will help to a degree. Your confidence with the cage and seats will make a huge differenceThumbs up

Don't take the power increase as gospel - it will be marginal at bestSmile

Top work Thumbs up

How much are TCS charging for the cage to be put in out of interest?

Cheers for the comments.

A better quality suspension setup is on the cards next year sometime. Wont be going for fancy brakes - just standard brembo disks and either some of the those fancy Mintex or Ferodo pads.

The initial quote from TCS for the cage install was 'around

Gave it a quick wash and took some pictures today as had some free time.

Had a good run up to coventry and back at the weekend for the christmas meet, and the seats really are comfy which im glad about!

Things to do are basically tidy upinside (wires, paint etc), fit either black sunstrip or get someone to tint the top of the windscreen as the sun is a b*tch without visors. Then maybe onto bodywork. Also get some proper padding to replace what is on the cage now. But I want to enjoy it for the time being!

Looks good. Cool

Really fancy the idea of stripping mine out and putting buckets and a cage in, not sure if I should do it or not? Hmm

Have you thought about getting a harness bar for the cage so you can fix the harnesses properly?

Cheers for the comments guys.

Ta for the bike Jonny, went out on it today and its spot on!

Stu - in the future I may extend the cage with an additional crossbar, then have harness bars put in between, but ive only had it back since thursday so just want to enjoy driving it for a while now.

I was unsure of if to do it or not, I just thought "f*ck it, why not!?" and it has all completely transformed the car, even more of a hoot to drive.

B&M I bought 2nd hand from Ash, Im used to the throw now but when I first used it you notice a big difference.

Chris - 2nd hand cage (from Birk) and no doorbars came with it. The steering wheel sticks out quite far and with the seat being quite close it is a bit tight at the moment to get out of (diet maybe?!) so doorbars would make it even harder LOL This weekend I will see which way is best for quick entry/exit LOL

loving the car buddy, very similar direction to where i want to go really. Did you find it difficult to mount the side mounts as i'm going to be doing it pretty soon!

Is it the OMP 10 point bolt in cage you have ? If so do you have any pictures of the mounting points?

- bet it's a joy to drive any idea of the weight now ?

Cheers Rob

Looks superb fella. One thing i'd suggest would be to chop out the original seat mountings and get some new rails welded in, that way you can get the seat lower and move your head further away from the cage, also makes you feel even more connected with the car. That is unless you're a short arse Laugh

Thanks mate Smile

Yeh its the OMP one, if you still need pics let me know and I can email some over to you.

Sidemounts were easy really, I bought some floating mounting bars, 1 was welded at the back of the seat as you can see in the pic, on passenger and drivers side, then a small mount welded to the crossmember in the footwell. I chose this method (as Daveyboy did first) as wasnt keen on getting the crossmember cut out like some others have.

No idea of weight, but must have taken a fair bit off. Maybe get it on a weigh bridge sometime.

The answer to that is....IM A SHORT ARSE! LOL

I could move the seat down on the sidemount holes, but it feels great as it is now so will leave it for now.

Yeh the white and red go well me thinks Cool

I take it the side points just bolt onto the old seatbelt runners somehow?

The seatbelt runners need to be removed and some plates welded onto the B pillam then you can stick a hole in the plate and attatch the cage.

Just a few pics from the 306.net Christmas meet earlier on in December.

Next up is new front disks and some uprated pads. Also some wheels which I will either use for track & speedlines for road, or the other way round LOL oh, and either a black sunstrip or tinted top part of windscreen as its a b*tch without sun visors!

Cheers.
