I'm in Southampton and I have all the necessary kit (Big hammers etc.) LOL and could do this for you next weekend. Have the torsion bars ever been out that you know of?

I've rebuilt and lowered plenty of 205/306/309 beams over the past few years.

What I'll warn you of now is to budget for a rebuild, not just lowering it. Most original GTi-6 beams that I see now are dying, with failing seals letting water in and bearings that are falling apart and eating into the shafts. Start knocking beams apart to lower them, and you're potentially opening up a whole can of worms. Just because they appear OK from the outside with none of the classic failure symptoms doesn't mean that they're in good condition internally - until you knock them apart, you can never be truely sure.

At the very least if you're getting it lowered, check the bearing/shaft condition, replace the outer seals, and regrease it before putting it back together. Adds about 10 minutes to the job, costs just a few quid in parts, but it'll extend the life of the beam considerably so long as the bearings and shafts are still good. If they're not, then to be honest there's little point putting the beam back together as it will fail sooner rather than later.

Just my 2p, and I'm sure they'll be people that'll disagree and others who have their heads in the sand about the problems with aging beams. I'm happy to explain in more detail the potential problems and pitfalls when you come to pickup the bits this week Smile

Either or mate. Only thing with it off the car is that I cant set the hight, but can take it all apart ready for assembly on the car.
On the car I can do the lot.

Think I've sorted a job now so I may not be available as and when as before.

As Ant's said really, It's really daft not to replace the Cup's and seals at the very least and even the outer bearings to give the beam a good chance of living for another few years at least
Again all 306 beam's I;ve taken apart have needed at least one Arm Shaft (Pin) and some see 10 ton's of pressure in my press before the torsion bar's move.
In theory it should be easy but rarly is

Echo both Miles's and Antony's thoughts really on atleast replacing seals and bearings and checking condition of it all.

Think I must have spent circa
