Urgh now I've fixed the fans I've got another problem.

Basically I've been trying to bleed the coolant system. the rad and thermostat have bled absolutely fine, but the top bleed point behind the heatshield won't do anything. I've followed the guide word for word with the header tank but no water comes out even after an hour. the water level doesn't even seem to drop in the header tank.

I know there's an airlock there cos the heating is on the blink but I can't bleed it for the life of me.

also about a litre of coolant is disappearing every month. could be a leak somewhere upstream? but if so its only losing 30ml per day which isn't much, and surely not enough to prevent the system from bleeding..?

suggestions please lads Smile

have you tried taking the screw fully out of the pipe? sounds like you may have a blocked pipe or worse a blocked matrix.

just had a think regarding the loss of coolant, blatantly the heater matrix. I've had a ridiculous amount of condensation on the windscreen for a few weeks. I guess I answered my own question there...

now just how to bleed it..?

yeah screw was all the way out. I'll try and jimmy the bleed pipe tomorrow

oh and don't think the matrix is blocked, it blows hot air for about 10 seconds so something warm is getting to it, but if it's just hot air. I'm guessing that's why it goes cold so quick?

I had a problem recently with the matrix bleed point too. I took the screw completely out and no coolant came out. It turned out that the pipe was blocked by gunge and i simply used a long nail to scrape out the gunge and hey presto, coolant came through.
Hope you fix it soon, it's a bad time of year to have no heat! Not to mention the damage it may do to your engine.

2ltr bottle in the rad with the top cut off.
Rases the water above the bleed point allowing to to be bled properly.

It'll still bleed all the air out even if the matrix is leaking slightly.
Just if its a really big leak it'll let the air in.
