hi all cheers for advice ive managed to get it started now!!!! but there is a definate tapping noise coming from around the inlet manifold and it get louder and closer tapping sound together the higher the revs! sounds very unhealthy, hmm it doesnt sound good , any ideas?

Could be a number of things

1.have you checked to see if the spark plugs are all tight?

if not check they are all snug as they have known to work they're way loose and cause a tapping noise

2.could be a noisy injector

3.could be that its some head work in the past and been poorly repaired.could be the result of a headgasket going or snapping a timing belt.or the crankshaft pulley could have slipped and messed the timing up

If it number 3,Welcome to tapper-ville,population YOU!! Thumbs up

hi cheers Roland_rat, i just put the spark plugs back in and checked tightness b4 i put the stepper motor back in so it cant be them loose.
it sound like a loud tapping sewing machine but it cant be bent valves as the cambelt hasnt snapped or slipped. i have no paperwork for any headwork from the previous owner/owners but you may be right, if so that is a bit anoying!

Can't you shove sand or something in to hide iirc. Sure there is a way but tbh I don't for a second believe the seller of said vehicle has done that.

Some injectors are quite loud!

How do you know the belt hasn't slipped without checking the timing. I sounds to be a likely cause.

Unsure

oh rite , i think it is either the cambelt had slipped or big end bearings, the sound does sound very much like spanner going around in a washing machine and get extremely loud the more throtlle you put on, if you could have a look when is conveniant for you. i would be much apreciated Chris. i live in a village called fair oak, not far from eastleigh

You should pick a good engine up for around 3-400 big ones. You can get them out and in probably 2 days max. Look in parts for sale there was an engine in there with 40k i think.

I'll look!

Sold as seen is likely to be the response. Sadly these things happen. I should know on a friends purchase I advised on that had faults within a couple of hundred miles, although not as drastic as this.
