I'v got a slight creaking coming from the rear beam of my Xsara when I first get in it on cold mornings, goes away after 30 seconds of driving though. Is this likely to require a rear beam rebuild or could it be something less serious? I seem to recall my old one did it a bit over winter but then was fine over summer.

Yep, it does it every morning as I roll back off my drive.

Jack up the rear of the car and see if you have any movement in the beam. Doesn't sound promising though Sad

That is what mine sounded like. It progresses to squeaking everywhere.

Check this isn't the handbrake squeeking a bit if it's binding as you back off your drive Wink

Well, it seems to have stopped doing it nowBlink I guess the weather has warmed up a bit so maybe it's that? I'll have a look at it tomorrow though.

The bearings are probably knackered mate!

How old is your car now? Approaching ten years old? 80k plus miles?

Start putting a bit of money away each month for a rebuild. The car will still be driveable for the time being. Mine got through an MOT and the bearings on the offside had been ground down into a smooth paste!LOL

Would this come up on the MOT? mine just went through fine, and the beam is knackered! Neg camber on both wheels, has been this way since the last mot Whistle

(Yes getting it sorted in the new year lol)

I get a creaking from the rear end of the car when the handbrake is on a bit and car starts moving. If I pull the handbrake up a bit more it stops.

Is my beam fooked?

Will more than likley be the rear pads rubbing on the disks if the handbreak isnt up far enough. Mine does the same, another click sorts it out.
