I have just fixed my car after months of trying to find out why it kept losing power and stalling.

I have fixed lots of parts and the car is almost running fine now.

One issue I have though is the fuel guage.
My car is an XSi 2.0 16V Phase 2.
This means the fuel sender unit is part of the fuel pump.

I have replaced the fuel pump but the issue remains.
Every time I start my car up, the fuel guage will show me how much fuel I have, if I leave car running for awhile or drive around, the fuel guage steadily rises steadily over time.
It's moved from quarter tank (which is how much petrol I had) to half a tank before.

It is not due to being on a hill etc. before you think it is that. It happens everytime I start the car and let it run for awhile.

The problem I

Been told it could be the Evaporative Emission (EVAP) Canister Purge Valve?

Anyone know where I can get one from other than Peugeot (complete rip off)?

This may sound unbelievable but I have tried to contact all the scrap yards round my area and all of them have been quite rude to me.

They told me they don't sell parts in this manner anymore.

You can't beat going to the Scrap yard in person you often find stuff there that even they don't know about. Most of the time in our area they just say you can have it if the part is small enough.

Basically what happens is the valve breaks in the open position which means the air from the fuel tank is sucked out by the engine, this deforms the fuel tank and moves the arm on the sender making the gauge read wrong.

Had it happen to mine and it took ages to work out thats where the problem was.
