Hi All,

I'm getting a clunk / creak that I can hear and feel through the steering wheel every time the wheel goes past 10 and 2.

Before I take it to a garage am I right to assume that this sounds like a problem with the steering rack? If so how much would I be looking at Sad

If not what else could it be? I've tried search for creak and clunk but being French cars it brings up quite a lot LOL

Thanks

Could well be the pins are worn in the universal joint, does it get slightly tighter at those spots?

Could be a top mount bearing gone, or a balljoint... My one balljoint was making all kinds of racket when it had dried out.

Yer it get's tighter and feels like I'm forcing it past that point. Happens at the same point on each rotation of the wheel though which is why I thought it could be the rack, but I know nothing technical to be honest!

With steering and suspension it could be absolutely anything I suppose. My girlfriends Dad is good friends with the servicing manager at Pug Rochdale and I they treat my car like gold so I'll have to get it booked in for a look.

I'm guessing worst case it's the rack but could be a bearing or such?

Will have to get breakdown cover first I think! LOL

If it's doing it at the same point on every turn of the wheel then it is more likely to be the UJ on the steering column - try some chain lube or similar on it and see if it eases up.

Sounds cheap, I'm liking it! LOL

Where can I access it? Footwell? back of the engine? Underneath?

Thanks

Hmm, turns out I have a snapped drivers spring Blush Guess I shouldn't have been driving it really!

What's a decent price for new springs and shocks fitted out of interest?

/Whoosh!

Not sure, he told me that the spring had snapped at the top (lucky as if it goes at the bottom it tends to take out the tyre I believe).

Need to decide whether to just get a set of springs fitted or wack some new struts on as well as a) I might as well as they will be needed soon and it's save on labour costs and Cool I quite fancy having brand new suspension LOL

So how much do you think it should be for 2x new springs supplied and fitted and 2 sets of springs and struts supplied and sitted?

Thanks

P.S - Still can't believe I got this soooo wrong. Guess that's why I work in e-com and not in a garage Blush
