hi everyone had a fault with my fans for a while now. only right hand one kicking in at 110'c. finaly got round to looking at them today and it turned out to be a earth fault in the wiring. had to remove the front bumper to trace the wiring back and found a the broken wire in the loom running under the rad on the front cross member. repaired and tested both fans now kick in on low speed at 95 - 97'c and both high speed kick in around 110'c. hope this helps anyone else who is having problems at the min________________________________________ MY CAR WAS BUILT ON 17/03/2000 THATS A FRIDAY OH NO |

Sorry to jump on this thread so late, I am having the same problems, i have sorted the bitron unit in the wheel arch and the fan kicks in when the temperature rises. However no matter what i do, i can only get the drivers side fan to work... is it possible to bridge the 2 green relays to enable the other fan to work? Any feed back would be a help.....many thanks! ________________________________________ just go faster |

Had to dig this up as my fans stopped today, sat in traffic to find my temp gauge touching the red I think a manual witch to turn on fans is a good idea when in traffic, any updates to this eddy? ________________________________________ |

steve h gti-6 wrote: When you pull the brown sensor, both fans should kick in on low speed then a few seconds later both should go to high speed if alls well. If you only get the left hand one or none, check the relays which are located behind your grill in a funny square shaped black box above/inbetween the fans. Inside you will see two green relays and one black relay box. Pull each one out to see if they have shorted out(maybe the right hand one IIRC), and or replace with some working ones. Failing that unscrew the connector which is on the bottom right of the rad and clean the connectors best you can. Thats a rough guide to how i sorted mine on my 6 so cant be too differant a priciple on your 6 matey. Apart from the above is where you have to get the fans out and test them to see if they are working/or change the Bitron unit which is located in the front left wheel arch at the top left as you look into the arch. Hope that helps you out matey Hi mate, im having the same problem.... but when I pull the brown sensor out the fans work as they should (low speed to high speed kick in) but when im in traffic and gets hot, the high speed fans dont kick in..... any thoughts ? Im guessing the Brown Fan Temp Sensor needs replacing ? ________________________________________ Team 6 Cylinders |

Also, can I swap these sensors ? i.e. swap a brown fan sensor with a green ECU sensor so I know the fans will kick in or are the sensors different ?Cheers ________________________________________ Team 6 Cylinders |

Yea i've unplugged the brown sensor and fans come on at both speeds when they should, but when the cars running and gets up to that temp the high speed fan doesn't kick in - leading me to assume that its the sensor thats at fault, that sound about right ?________________________________________ Team 6 Cylinders |
