I have recently purchased an engine, gearbox and drive train with very low mileage. The engine was originally in an unregistered car on a Peugeot dealer forecourt which was stolen and recovered by Thames valley police. It was then stored and sold to a contractor and has been sitting in a dry garage ever since. I should know a little more about the exact mileage and specific details shortly.

I am still undecided if I should drop the engine into my 6 which has already had a lot of work done over the last three years ... or to find a second 6 for the transplant. My wife has started to help out with the mechanics and now wants to work on her own 6 Shock I could not have imagined doing this 3 years ago ... so thanks to everyone who has helped out with answering some of the most basic questions Cheers The first job is to put in one of Rich_W's lightened flywheels which is arriving tomorrow. so you're swapping a like for like engine in a 6?! what' wrong with your engine?

Nothing wrong with the current engine. I have been planning to respray the engine bay for sometime so have the opportunity to use the new engine, gearbox and drive train. This might give me the confidence to do a SC conversion on my 64k engine.

Sold as under 500 miles but spoke to the contractor yesterday and he thinks it could have been as low as 30 to 60 miles. The brake discs have no lip at all which is a good sign. And the cam lobes? still have cross hatching.

Cambelt done today with thanks to Dan Thumbs up

Decided to do a few other rubber bits like the Crank seal at the same time as the lightened flywheel etc.

If there is anything else which anyone can recommend to sort out for a engine which has been sitting around for ten years please advise.

Have to decide on changing the engine loom or splicing a spare connector ... would really like to use the existing engine loom and splice.

not quite but stolen recovered could have been flood damaged or something equally nasty. These things rarely get stored if they've a good commercial value but its still a good buy as you'd easily get your money back by breaking the bits you've got there. That said it will probably be fine just get it in a car and find out!!

Can anyone advise on the damaged engine loom radiator connector?

The options are to splice a new connector or wire in a spare engine loom i have purchased. I want to get this done tonight as the engine is being swapped over tomorrow and it is easier to do this before it goes in the car.

Engine and gearbox fitted. Initially only firing on 3 cylinders. Swap over the injectors and it just ticks over great. The difference in having new steering, engine, gearbox is significant. Car is stalling when I put the brakes on atm ... hopefully just an ECU reset.
