just fitted a set of these and what a differance they have made gear changes alot smoother and works great with the short shift kit i already had fitted. well worth doing the overtime for  ________________________________________ MY CAR WAS BUILT ON 17/03/2000 THATS A FRIDAY OH NO |

Do these make a noise? I fitted these at the same time as a replacement gearbox and have had a light metallic rattle on overrun since.Wierdly the sound changes if I hold the gearstick in different directions which is why I think it might be the rods. The rallye started doing this on the way back from leicestershire - i blame the crap concrete A50 - probably vibed something loose - but mine has a hybrid set of mile's rods, the long ones stock because it was too long - think i've mixed up the rallye rods and dturbo rods when i eagerly unwrapped 'em  ________________________________________ Cad Monkey will work for chocolate biscuits....I'm not kidding |

Yes, mine rattled at certain RPMs, Basically they dont have any rubber to dampen vibration, so you will always get some from the gearbox transmitted to the stick. I found that if you take a spanner to them and adjust the angle you can reduce it, as they can also vibrate a bit themselves. I took mine off recently and fitted standard, it felt a bit light for a bit but im used to it again now and car is nice and quiet |

I think it would, yes. Of course, the thicker you go, the less solid the gear change will feel, and the thinner you go the less noise will be dampened. |

ideally with these things you need to get your wallet out and buy the PTFE lined ones. But i had them on my other rallye with no problems. |

Someone else had a rattle after fitting these and after having a look I think the ball joint is either the wrong size or is faulty, or the ball is worn as it moves much more than it should on the ball. The set on my 205 are silent. It seemed pretty obvious to grease the cups before they went in though, so if they're dry then grease them up and it might cure it. They're adjustable too so I've got the gear stick sitting right where I want it, and along with the modified L bracket (using Miles' guide and a bolt in ball joint he supplied) it's made a world of difference to the gear change. ________________________________________ Ph1 306 GTi 6 | RX8 231 S1 | YBR 125 Cafe Racer | MT-03 660 |

I fitted a set to my dirty diesel and they make the slight metallic rattle, if I hold the gearstick to one side slightly it shuts up. Putting CV molybdenum grease on them quietened them down a bit but they still do it and it's really annoying on a commute (hence the engine choice!).. Need to stick more grease in I reckon.I was planning on making a sort of gaiter for them using 6 johnnys/balloons with the ends chopped off packed full of grease and cable tied on... Like anything you uprate, Be it Dampers, Engine Mounts etc you will get some more noise into the cabin as your going away from the basic spec,mind on all of my car's I;ve never had this so it's difficult for me to see the issue but I cannot see it being huge at all.
