its not like the other quickshifts that attach at gearbox end, it replaces gear lever mount, I am curious......!clickaroo ________________________________________ Team 'unintentional rat look' |

ah I see. Just my gear stick has decided to snap off at the ball bit, so was wondering whether this would be worth fitting while sorting it.Just a question of money now! ________________________________________ Team 'unintentional rat look' |

I have one of these from Miles.Firstly, I have had other bits from Miles and they work fine. A few things to be aware of. Mine didn't come with fitting istructions. I'm mechanically OK with fitting bits but it would have been helpfull! Miles mailed me a quick list of how to fit them. Unfortunately it was for a 5 speed box as he'd never personally fitted one to a 6. Which meant I had to find out via the forum what to do with the reverse gear selector which is bonded to the gear stick. This has to be removed with a sharp knife and then held in place with a hoseclip when you've put the stick in place. It also needs to be trimmed back as it expands when cut and the lift bit wont slide back over it - I used a dremmel. Once fitted the real problems started. The two collars supplied have bad tolerances which resulted in the stick moving about in the ball joint. They are held in place by two grub screws that are at 180degrees to each other. This, added to the gaps between the shaft and collar, meant that moving the gearstick basically pivoted the collar on the shaft and after a short period of time caused the colar to come loose. This was usually the bottom one which was too big for the housing and meant that you had to force the gearstick into gear. You then have a floppy stick to drive on as you can't get to it to tighten it back up due to having to access it from underneath after removing the heatshield by the glowing hot cat! After this happening for 4 or 5 times (Usually after about 15miles of driving) I'd had enough. Speaking to a friend about it, he mentioned that he had a lathe - so we made some more collars with tight tolerances and grub screws at 90deg. Now done 140miles and nothing has moved or fallen off. So, yes, the QS works great if you have a lathe to make some new collars. Dean |

I sent him pictures of the collars I made, so hopefully the new ones will have tighter tolerances and grub screws at 90deg.I agree with Hovis though, love the short shift |
