Excellent. I will hopefully get away with just bearings. Is it possible to come and collect some as I am not to far way? If they have been changed for undersize ones will they be marked or will I have to get the crank measured?

Yes can do the XU9J4 also Yes

Yes I will always be able to supply these - I have been appointed a UK re-seller since Longmans bit the dust.

As for sizing - if they are undersize, it will tell you on the underside of the shell, and say -0.3, -0.5 etc.

Good stuff. I'll be rebuilding my spare Mi16 engine as part of a uni project so will be after some of these then. Do you supply other components like piston rings, rod bolts and similar?

indeed, its a bit illy to strip that far and not replace them, you can change the big ends, but its quite a lot more involved to change the mains bearings for which I would take the engine out and upend it on a stand.

Because you have to take the crank out, and you have to take all the main bearing caps off to take the crank out. Its not that much more work than the big ends, most of the stuff will have been taken out already.

you dont have to take the crank out. I've just changed pistons and cylinder head in the car after the cambelt slipped and a valve mashed a piston.

The question referred to main bearings not big ends, and you do need the crank out to change the mains Yes

You can only change the outer halves (under the caps) of the mains with the crank in place. The other halves are under the crank.

Rich, My Mi16 is being rebuilt no instead of later, so am interested in a set of these. What range of oversizes can you supply them? My crank is being reground though I believe it's not really suffered too much damage and doesn't need much more than a polish out.

Do you supply piston rings as well? I may need some advice on using new rings with my liners, if you don't mind me picking your brains.

Guy

You could do it with the crank in place (Not easy but it is possible to push out and rotate the old shell aroud the crank and out the other side)but there would be no sure way of checking the bearings for ovality once the caps had been torqued down. If you just want to fit them and take a chance that the clearances are even all the way round then thats fine, but it's a big gamble and for the small ammount of extra work required to get the crank out at that stage it's not really worth the risk.

Yes - all the thrust washers I have are standard size.

It's very unlikely you will need anything else.
