Hi...Im doing a gti6 engine conversion on my 205 gti, but dont want to keep the 6 speeder. What boxes will fit without having to change the flywheel etc? I know the vts box will, but unsure what others do or which is the best box... Thanks in advance, Adam.________________________________________ Passat B5.5 TDi estate (174bhp, 260 lbs/ft) |

Agree with carl, six speeder is a nice quirk of the '6', but its a bit of a gimmick IMO. Plus the loss of lock...Drove a gti-6 for a while and seemed to only ever use 4 of the gears...Would be a much better box if the sixth gear was more suited to 70mph cruising. ________________________________________ Passat B5.5 TDi estate (174bhp, 260 lbs/ft) |

If you go for the 6 speed, you can offset the steering rack using the track rod ends and u get 85 -90 % of the lock. Reverse parking is a minor loss to what you would gain! ________________________________________ Team 205 gti-6 |

Usally when you do a 6 speed conversion you put a stopper on the rack so that the tyre doesnt touch the box but you can remove this and offset it so you can gain a little extra then put another stopper but with a paper thin gap! Only makin a suggestion to help the guy out. I ran a 1.6 box on mine and was ok but i didnt do alot of motorway driving. ________________________________________ Team 205 gti-6 |

Yes you can make the shim so its just the right size and get the wheel as close as possible to box on full lock without touching but the lock is still limited by the box |

I used to run a six speeder, complete arse in a 205. No lock, forever swapping cogs and the gearchange isn't as good as a 5 speed. Due to the 6 speed having a narrow gearset, you end up with the box not smotthly going into gear until it's warmed up properly. On a road car I would use eiher an Mi16 or VTS 'box. Great ratios for a light car and quite decent at motorway speeds too. Josh |

1.6 box would be great fun - my mi16 on 1.6 box flies up through the gears. Other than that, I'd go for an Mi16 box, or a VTS box as already suggested ________________________________________ Ph1 306 GTi 6 | RX8 231 S1 | YBR 125 Cafe Racer | MT-03 660 |

1.6 box has too short a 1st gear, and long gap between 1st and 2nd which keeps it out of the power band. 6 speed would be stupid due to the limited lock - its a bodge even in the 306, must have been cobbled together in pugs workshop. vts, mi16, s16 |
