Even though a lot of people say auto wipers are rubbish, on my last 306 I liked them so am going to find out whats wrong!

Basically the auto wipers don't work. When switched to the auto setting they work like a bog standard intermitant setting. So:

The sensor has been removed, and swapped for one that is known to work. Still no auto wipers. My sensor was then tried on another car and what do you know, the auto wipers work. So its not the sensor.

Where do I go from here? A search hasn't solved my problem.

Is there a "brain" which controls them? Where is it if so? Yanni on another thread said the central locking unit controls them (which is located under the back seat not under the dash) so I changed that too, and still no auto wipers.

Help!

How odd like i said before all mine took was a new sensor. Are your wires/is the plug ok? Just seeing if autodata mentions them.

Apparently there are 2 relays for the auto wiper not sure where they are will keep researching

Not really all that informative but info

Have a look at fuse 30 and try pulling and replacing the shunt fuse?

The 2 purple relays are for the auto wipers I believe
(pic borrowed from the relays thread)

According to that diagram the rainsensor is what controls the speed that the wipers operate at there are no other control units etc, just the switch, 2 relays, the sensor and the wipermotor itself.

Ok cheers for the info. I'll check fuse 30. Will be funny if its as simple as that!

The diagram is a bit beyond me. So we're saying theres 4 main parts:

Switch
Relays x2 purple
Sensor
Wiper motor

Plus fuses here and there, yes?

EDIT: Fuse 24, 28 and 30 fine. Shunt fuse fine. Something somewhere is telling the wiper motor to come on at normal intermitant so there must be an answer! Maybe try swapping the purple relays?

I tried both relays from a car known to work, along with the sensor, motor and the switch, tried all yours on the other car and they worked fine, I think it must be wiring, but I would like to know why they wont work as it bugs me too?!

Anyone any idea at all? Is it possible to change the wiring over? Or will that involve taking the dash out etc??

have you tried continuity checks between the switch, motor, relays and sensors. it might not be getting the signal it needs to activate auto-wipe....

To finish this thread off for good, I had a new windscreen fitted and they now work. It may have taken four years but got there in the end.

I had this problem on my Blaze and it was the plug on the wiper motor, corroded terminals, removed cleaned and all working!
I found this from lots of searching the web and apparently due to the location of the motor and plug is open to water ingress.

Was the wipe motor for me, had the stuttery wipe action

Had new indiscreet too, the difference in visibility is worth £75 alone!

Didn't realise how hazy 100k of small stone chips can be!
