I've got a problem which occurs when reversing after a journey. When I parallel park, after selecting reverse gear there is a loud grinding that you can also feel through the steering. I have swapped out the PAS pump to no avail... |

Gearbox is f*cked Don't you have a solid lower mount? That makes everything sound and feel loud and horrible! How come you swapped the PAS pump? ________________________________________ Cress87 wrote: This place is getting beyond a joke. Thought pump bearings might be causing the noise. Ive got a group N mount but that just adds vibration from 1200-1500rpm. Im puzzled as when I start the car and reverse its fine. Only seems to be after a journey. |

Is it grinding when you actually start moving bud? Checked the gear linkages to make sure there's no play?If not i'd say gearbox oil has to be a good shout, although it's only about a year since we last did it isn't it? ________________________________________ Seat Leon Cupra FR / 306 GTI6 / Breaking 205 GTI6 / Caterham 7 / Mercedes Sprinter 311CDI LWB Sold: Fisher Fury - Laguna DCI Estate - P1 306 XSI - E30 BMW 325i Baur Convertible - Daihatsu Fourtack - Suzuki GSXR600 - 205 Rallye |

It grinds when i start moving in reverse yeah. Weird how it only occurs after a journey though It doesn't feel like a linkeage issue. |

This is definately steering related, turning one way can start/stop the sound (when it occurs, that is, intermittently).Pain in the arse to diagnose, nothing seems out of place or worn. Im guessing driveshafts, steering rack, or gearbox issue. |

brakes would be my thought if the sliders aren't releasing fully or the pad has some grit attached. Otherwise wait till something breaks or it gets worse |

Otherwise wait till something breaks or it gets worse Agreed, it could be your front bakes, but first try this. take the car for a spin to warm things up, plenty of braking, stop the car but don't go into reverse just yet, spin the steering wheel full lock left and right to check for the sound, if no sound then you can pretty much rule out any steering faults i'd then check your front discs for excessive rust, when your brakes get hot and expand they can rub on the calipers, only slightly but enought to make a grinding sound. If they are fine then i would check the steering ram for leaks, drive shaft outer cv joint or front springs, check to see if one of the springs has snapped near the top mount or the the top mount bearing are on the way out. Sounds like a mission, good luck and let us know how you get on. |

1. I had something simlar with a Front spring which broke about an inch from the top mount. took forever to realise that the spring had broken. made a noise when i turned right in reverse.2. might be the gear lever control cable which wears over time and causes difficulty selecting reverse gear. 3. drive shaft? edit: don't think it is no.2 on second thoughts |

Right 'box has had an oil change and an LSD fitted now. Still got the grinding in reverse. Guess it's on to brakes and Cv joint inspection... |
