Hi lads,

Got a bit of serious gearbox wobble. It started off with just a wobble from the gearknob, but now the entire car wobbles under acceleration, but is fine if just cruising and not putting any load on the engine. My mechanic says that there isnt anything wrong with the mounts, I just dont know what it could be?

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated??

Um i cant really say to be honest as Carl Chambers did mine for me, he said its quite an easy job to do but hes done a fair few and knows his stuff !

Just the shafts will need doing, the ones from Pug which are direct exchange is the way forward, IIRC they come with new everything like CV's etc.

Rich, put the car on full lock and pull away slowly, you'll probably hear a clicking noise.

It's p*ss easy to do the nearside driveshaft, the offside one can be a bit more tricky as the intermediate bearing can stick in the engine mount casing, but that just takes a good few blows with a hammer Wink

drive shafts are fairy easy i would say only a case of popping out the ball joint and pushing the drive shaft in to get it out of the hub and then it just slids out really job for a saturday i guess Thumbs up

Hi Richie_h,

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I was wondering if changing the driveshafts on your car fixed the gearbox wobble? My, or rather the Mrs's car, has the exact same problem and don't want to fork out for something that might not cure it!

Any advice or reply would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks,

Lewis

Thanks for your quick reply mate! You can ignore my pm as it says the same thing!

Did you replace both shafts or just one? Where did you source them from?

Thanks again mate!

For me it was just the drivers side, but could be either.

I sourced them through 24/7 parts. Was way to expensive from the main steeler!

Good luck mateSmile

Thought that might be the case! Main steeler is certainly correct!

How did you know it was the drivers side one? Did it come apart at the inner joint or something?

Thanks mate Thumbs up Thumbs up
