Crazy

Stuck with this one, been doing it more ever since I sorted out blow on the flexi on the exhaust. Tried the usual ECU reset but still not sorted it, just wondering if its any sensors that need cleaning up.

Doesnt matter if its hot or cold, if your maintaining a constant speed, be it at 2k revs or 5k revs, every now and again it will seem to be missing, but only when you are just about holding the gas to keep a constant speed.

Floor it and its fine, no issues so can only put it down to one of the sensors playing up.

Any ideas?

would it be the lambda sensor as you've bin fiddling with the exhaust?

Lambda, as you say it goes away at full throttle and the Lambdas not used at full throttle but any other time it is

Any way of testing the lambda?

Try unplugging it and see if the problem is still there.

If not then you have found out whats causing the problem.

I had a similar thing on the 205 and it was the Lambda. Good luck in getting the bugger off!

When was your last MOT?
That should give you a Lambda reading, 1 is spot on, I think you are allowed between .9 and 1.1

You can check the lambda sensor using a multimeter. I had a printout from an autodata cd that told you the resistence values etc. Ive thrown it out now but if you know someone who has autodata then your winning.

Also agree with stupug..just unplug it and run the car 'open loop' for a while..See if theres a difference.

My other suggestion is just floor it everywhere LOL

Bit of a thread revival here!

Ben306 - did you get this resolved? Was it the lambda sensor in the end or did you just take gti6loon's advice and floor it everywhere?

I have a slightly similar problem but it sounds mush milder than yours was. I seem to get shakey/uneven engine delivery but just at about 1800rpm. The rest of the speed range is smooth and it is only uneven when holding constant throttle or sometimes when deceleratng through 1800rpm with closed throttle.

I wouldn't even describe it as missing or hesitation, it's more subtle than that. You can feel the car slightly shaking if you hold it at that engine speed. I notice it most in 6th when doing around 40mph.

Has anyone had anything like this before?

The idle control valve hasn't been cleaned for a couple of thousand miles but the engine never hunts, has a rock steady idle and never cuts out. It's an easy check though so I will give it a quick clean.

I have got my top engine mount chocked and it all feels tight. There isn't any knocking when pulling away or changing gear.

It is strange that it seems to be only at 1800rpm but I guess it could be some some of resonance that one of the engine mounts doesn't like.

lambda Thumbs up

or a combination of lambda and ecu temp sender.

Welshpug do you mean the engine coolant temp sensor or the intake manifold air temp sensor?

Time to get the multi-meter out I think.

Another thing is that I am averaging 33mpg with mixed driving and 36-38 possible on a long motorway run.

This would suggest that the lambda is working as it should?? Correct me if that is too big an assumption.

That is good MPG to be honest. Yes

It won't be the ICV as this only affects idle, not above that RPM.

Throttle Position Sensor could be faulty, or a little bit worn at that setting so it throws the fuelling off slightly at that RPM range. Wink

I've had similar problems recently. Changed the lambda and MAP sensor (which helped alot) but the car doesn't feel like it's accelerating fully when on WOT. Got a new TPS to chuck on when I get a moment which should hopefully solve the problem.

Good luck mate Smile

Let us know what the results are when you get round to doing this. Thumbs up

I've got that sort of feeling at the moment as well. I rarely use WOT as it almost feels quicker with partial throttle openings. I'd be really interested to know if changing the TPS sorts this out for you.

How much was your TPS by the way and where did you get it from?

Today I checked my throttle position sensor to see what voltage it was returning.

I got 0.61V at closed throttle and 4.6V at WOT. This seems pretty close to what it should be but it does mean that the output signal range is down by the best part of 1V from the recommended 0.2V to 5V. And when you look at it like that it seems quite significant (almost 20%).

I checked the supply as well and it was bang on; 4.99V.

Has anyone ever measured a brand new genuine TPS?

Had some more time on the car today so I cleaned out the throttle body and the ICV. There was some carbon/oily build up on the throttle plate seating faces and around the intake air temp sensor but nothing major. This would have undoubtedly been much worse had I not done away with my cam cover breather return back to inlet.

I also cleaned my ICV air feed filter and the MAP sensor then did an ECU reset. Once everything was re-assembled I tested the MAP sensor itself.

- Supply voltage was 4.99V.
- At fast idle (1000rpm) the signal voltage was 1.7V.
- At normal idle (900rpm) the signal voltage was 1.5V.
- A sharp throttle blip made the voltage go up to about 4.8V then down to 0.3V before settling back to 1.5V.

This is all as I would have expected it to be. This seems to suggest that the MAP sensor is good.

I took the car for a blast and it felt great. There was no uneven delivery and the throttle felt more responsive and crisper. It has been feeling slightly sticky around closed position recently but that has now gone altogether. I even had some fun following an RS4 Avant for a while Big grin before he left me for dead on a dual carriageway.

I am still not sure whether or not a new TPS would improve things even more, based on the voltage readings that I got yesterday?? It would really help to know what voltage measurements people have got off a new TPS.

If you are having hesitating when accelerating then its almost certainly the tps. I'd change it anyway considering its age l, or at least find a known second.

I got it a forum member on here (the guy that had the sundance yellow 6), not brand new but only done a few hundred miles. I paid about 20squid for it from memory. I'll try and get some reading when I'm next home Smile
