Why? Drove 110 miles down to girlfriends house yesterday afternoon, parked car on her drive and left it there all night. When i parked it, it seemed fine, no hints to a problem whatsoever!

Got in it today at about 6pm to come home, as soon as i moved forward, i could tell there was a problem, juddering, stiff etc.

Jacked car up and found drivers side front spring had just collapsed. Got home, eventually, to find spring snapped!

How? Why? It just seems to have happened mysteriously on its own overnight!

The next question is replace with standard or lower? Can't decide!

Cheers!

Known issue with 306. Badly painted springs cause them to rust and snap.

Hey, I had exactly the same thing happen to me, not that I spent the night at you girlfriends but mine was fine but then the next morning it was chuffed. I heard a couple of rumors that Peugeot hang the springs up when they spray them and where they are supported they dont get painted and so rust at that point. How true that is I don't know! Also heard that if your car has done less than 100k and is less than 10 years old they will replace it for free but again its a rumour, I'm gonna check that out myself tho. I just changed my spring for another and its fine

It's called stress corrosion cracking all it needs is a small crack or rusty pit (thanks Pug), some salty water (winter) and some stress (weight of the car). Then all by itself the crack gets bigger until it reaches a critical size and then bang, a broken spring. Sad

Wow getting technical there bertie, do you wanna publish the formula for critical crack length in spring steel while you're at it? :-) But your right it's not really on, french build quality once again, if only the 306 was german build!

Unless you buy some second hand springs and just replace them. Whistle

My mates Citroen Berlingo van has a recall to fit a cup to the strut to stop the spring going into the tyre if (when!) it breaks Dry

Pretty sure peugeot should have recalled this as its a known issue thats pretty dangerous.

I lowered mine after spring failure, best bet is throw some Eibachs on it Smile

This exact same thing happened to my car last night when I tried to reverse it. Heard a loud bang, got out to investigate but couldn't see anything obviously wrong in the dark. Tried to move back some more and it was quickly obvious something was VERY wrong. Turns out the spring has snapped and has completely destroyed my lovely, hardly-worn BFG Profiler 2 Sad Now I need 4 new tyres (as I have two slow punctures on other tyres) and new springs.

Anybody know the best place to get standard springs? Found loads about lowering springs by searching but nothing about where to get standard ones. I know some people have said they are selling second hand ones but I'd rather buy brand new. Any help much appreciated.

holy thread resurrection batman

however, if you were unlucky, it would launch you across the road into either a ditch by the hard shoulder, or into the central reservation. seen it done. i would rather eat shit out of a stool-filled pensioners commode than buy 2nd hand springs

these are sprung steel and most are 10 years old at least, they don't last for ever and as the steel is brittle they do tend to break rather than just sag

Laugh my ass off

They often take a tyre out when they go too so it's not really worth fitting some ropey 10 year old springs. No

this is very common on the ph2 vts's so watch out if you nick their springs to lower your 6.
