i have an infra red remote key fob....the original batteries lasted over 6 months.

each subsequent set (all differing brands) have lasted a week Sad

i have taken the unit apart and cleaned with isopropyl, neither of the two buttons are stuck on or are activating too easily "in pocket etc" they function as normal

no obvious damage to any components, the two diodes (glass zenner? and 6v square thing?) seem to be functioning as per multimeter test.

hooked it upto a bench supply and a remote battery amp multimeter to test curent draw. has a constant 2-3ma draw.... as the battery is only about 160mah this would explain its short lifespan.

borrowed my friends thermal cam and theres no obvious hot/warm component draining it away.

i did notice it has what appears to be a radio crystal chip (metal cased oval component), which seems weird as its infra red. im guessing this communicates with the little passive imobilizer chip in the key fob?

my only guess is maybe it keeps loosing contact with the battery briefly and keeps trying to recommunicate with the passive immobilizer chip.

im kinda stumped, any ideas what to probe next?

cannot find a replacement key fob or circuit Sadare like hens teeth it would seem.

things acting bloody weird.

after my remote battery fault finding probe session it stopped working alltogether...(no red light when buttons pressed despite new battery)

then an hour later....works fine except the battery still lasted all of 4 days again.

took the key apart to have another multimeter probe.... while testing......thing went into a weird sequence/mode where only the smaller deadlock button would light the red led on every other press....
if i leave it for a bit it fixes itself and works with my car....but to only randomly die again.

i dont suppose anyone has a circuit diagram/spec sheet for the phase 2 ir key fob. i can map out most of the cuircuit myself....but with the blob chip and some unmarked smd components....im kinda p**sing into the wind.

the glass cap for the immobiliser chip is separate to the CL portion, totally unrelated and not powered.
