As some of you have seen, this site is a bit hit and miss.

Short story: code is so old it needs a refresh desperately and most hosting providers have pulled the plug on the support for the PHP version it's wrote in. So, I've been trying to prop it up for a couple of years now and with one problem I fix, another occurs. I have just moved the site [again] to another host who support old PHP versions.

It *looks* like it's working again, I am mindful there's a bug somewhere still though. If you spot something, let me know.

Long term, the plan is to redo the whole site and move to a better proper forum software but this is a) time consuming and Cool costly if you want something half decent, and let's be honest there's zero money in this kind of thing anymore i.e. people paying or contributing. So at the moment I've been just paying it all myself and keeping it active, but it needs sorting properly sooner or later.

Let me know of any bugs you spot, but, it's definitely worth keeping backups of your project threads because unfortunately I can't move *everything* over manually to a new platform when that time arises.

Ideas/Suggestions most welcome

How much money are we talking here?.....I'd be happy to chip in a contribution if it comes to it and especially if a fair few others did the same.

Btw (and off topic)...I bought a set of Rallye decals off you around eight years ago and only just fitted them this week. No issues with adhesion etc. Just a heads up for anyone concerned about the shelf life of these things.

3 months is long enough to outlive any 306 LOL

I work in IT, happy to lend a hand if i have the time and you need any help with stuff?

it might be a good idea to get a backup of all current/historical threads as static pages for the future. much simpler to host something like that for reference back. Then if you were to move it to a newer forum platform you could simply host the static pages as an archive if importing all these historical posts are not feasible.

I'd be more than happy to setup something to trawl the site and generate static pages if that would be useful

i've got the FAQ's backed up complete. the issue is there's *that much* important stuff here it's physically filtering out the unnecessary. it's a tough task. hence i think the FAQ stuff is the most important, then people's project threads. but, then they won't be able to reply / edit their threads once i take snapshots of them.

so many considerations and things to get rid of or keep

Oh absolutely! deal with it all the time. You don't know what's useful until you go thru everything and to go through everything would take someone absolutely ages!

In my opinion it would be a good idea to get a static page backup of the entire forum that you can host in a read-only state that can then be used for reference in the future. if you would like i am more than happy to setup something to do that for you?

You just never know what little golden nuggets exist in random threads

Thanks!
I would also make a donation.
Transferring all contents including user accounts to a new soft would be perfect if the amount of work is justifiable. Otherwise, I hope you manage to put up a static page backup of everything, accessible as a searchable archive in case there is no possibility to maintain the current forum any longer. There is too much useful information spread across all threads to leave something out.
