other night my fuel light came on and the needle was at the very bottom of the guage, despite just putting a tenner of fuel in all of 3 miles prior.

not a fuel leak. so i guessed fuel sender is dicky. went and put another tenner of fuel in....still same red light bottomed out needle situation. figured id swap the pump/sender unit from my xsi over the weekend.

come to the car this morning.....fuel gauge is working again.

any ideas on causes?
is it worth cleaning the resistance wiper arm thing on the sender with some iso alch?

problem didnt rear its head until 3 months later, cleaned the send arm wiper area with iso and cotton swabs (much residue/crust). used a bit of copper grease to clean the tiny brass brush wiper arm working it back n forth. re-iso cleaned it all.

works fine now.
