Not related to my loose steering wheel/column issue.

On the steering rack. to the rear of where the pinion interfaces. is a pusher mechanism designed to reduce play/slack.

how often do they go dicky/sticky?, is it a case of take apart, clean and regrease? the exploded diagram looks like a springy washer explosion waiting to happen, is it?

for how long my cars been sitting and the play ive found in the rack.... is it possible a bit of maintenance on this item/mechanism could be an easy fix?

well well well.......took mine apart today.

grease was all black and gritty..... and it was missing 2 of the three washers from the exploded diagram.

is the diagram correct?

all mine was is the clamp plate, an o-ring, a thin washer, the spring (with nub insert thing) and the plastic piston.

ive cleaned it all and refitted it all.....there's about 8-10mm of preload on the spring but am somewhat worried im missing some washers/compression on the spring.

i guess i can add a washer if it needs it? can anyone verify or check theirs please?
