to elborate on the title.

from cold my gti6 starts fine, idles fine, runs fine.
when it warms up it runs fine, and idles fine for about 10-15 seconds.
the idle then become a bit misfirey and slowly gets worse and worse.
if i blip the throttle it cures it again for another 10-15 seconds.
if i dont blip the throttle it eventually feels like its about to stall/die.

sometimes if im trying to accelerate off from a standstill it also feels like its about to die/stall unless i take it out of gear and blip the throttle. again only when the engines warm.

im hoping its just my icv being dicky and it needs a clean/replace.

but just incase any other places/sensors to look at?

The green coolant temp sensor migth be worth a look. In the FAQ's under 'Engine' there's a 'Testing Sensors' FAQ - Coolant Temp Sensor is about half way down.

Failing that, what's the history on the lambda?

thanks for the reply

unknown.....cars been sat for 10 years, somewhat of a barn find.

i cleaned out the icv and oil bretaher lines other day, didnt seem to help.

i havnt been able to "test" or give it an "italian tune up" untill i had the cam belt done (today)

i have swapped over the exhaust from my parts pile....but i reused its exsisting o2 sensor.....it didnt look bad but thats hardly an indication.

by any chance are either of those two sensors "tested" if by unplugging either, it cures the problem?

also.. im not sure if the bogging down and irratic idle problems temporarily cured by me blipping the throttle or me allowing the throttle pedal to fully release and the revs drop past a certain point before i try and use it again. could this be a throttle position sensor problem?

did an oil flush and change today, tried the ecu reset with all the electrics turned on trick....

problem still persists Sad

driving it spiritidly for a week hasnt fixed it either.

i have figured out it is the throttle pedal being fully released that cures the bogging down issue.
it only seems to happen around sub 2500 rpm.

its weird as it only happens if the engines warm.

i remember reading on here somewhere that after the engine is upto tempreture the ecu hands over engine management to the lambda as it needs to be hot before it gives the correct reading.

not sure if it mentioned any other sensors it starts to use once the engine is warm.
i have a new lambda on the way.

hopefully thats the fix.

Can you run a diagnostic? I'm betting on a failed MAP sensor.

the diagnostic thing i have only reads wheel speed sensors and if the airbag tripped/not, they're working fine. :S

ive rang every garage /mobile mechanic/automotive electrician in a 30 mile radius and not a single one has the peugeot planet diagnostic software.
(west midlands)

if you could reccommend someone i havnt tried that'd be great Big grin

been tinkering today. found it it was missing a litre of gearbox oil :S (filled now)

i tried two spare map sensors i had in my parts bin. neither fixed the problems.

went for a drive with the lambda unplugged. both problems are gone.

ive also realised my check engine light, doesnt come on when the lambda is plugged or unplugged. (should it?)
the bulbs ok as it lights on 2nd click ignition.

hopefully when the new lambda gets here it'll fix the problems.

i swear my car is f-ing with me.

past two days both to and from work the issue has not appeared.

sods law my new O2 sensor is delivered today.

any chance half a tank of redexed petrol can fix an O2 sensor? because thats all ive done to her Big grin

definately f-ing with me.

On Friday the problem appeared about 2 minutes into my commute to work (before she was fully warm).....solved itself about 5 minutes towards the end of my commute. (commute is 20-30 minutes)

was about the same story on the way home.....problem only occured mid journey and was fine at the beggining and end.

swapped the O2 sensor today (sat) along with a brand new map sensor, (and a new gearbox mount)
ecu reset. first drive, problem seems to of gone....but a new one has appeared... :S

i get a quite noticable dip in power past 3500 rpm, feels like ive let off the throttle or someone attached a heavy weight to the back of the car.

any ideas?

progress. (im a dingle and i think its helped)

took the car for its second spin.....

was fine except the lack of power past 3500rpm.
towards the end she started dieing worse than before, spluttering and cutting out Sad
releasing the throttle didnt seem to help this time.

managed to limp her home to find id left the throttle position sensor cable unplugged....today id only manged to loosen one bolt before realising id need to take the whole throttle body off to get to the other. id only re tightened the bolt not reattached the plug.

re-attaching the TPS got me all the beans back past 3500rpm. the dieing issued came back (but not so bad, as i could cure it by fully releasing the throttle.

i guess this points to TPS being dicky?

Im still and dingle and it didnt help.

just taken off the throtle body to fit new TPS, made no difference Sad

new spark plugs
new coils packs (2nd hand)
new fuel filter
new exhaust
cleaned ICV
new o2 senor
new map sensor
new TPS

if it turns out to be the green coolant sensor ill be annoyed with myself Razz

Isn’t it a bad terminal on the battery? That was what was causing similar issues with one of my GTI’s.

battery terminals have been cleaned, both the connectors and the battery nipples.

chassis earth terminals look ok n all.

it only happens when warm.... so either its a faulty sensor thats only used when my cars upto temp.
Or more annoyingly it could be heat expansion causing gap creation of another part in the car causing it.

Scouring the posts on here.....random heat problems it could be are a faulty/cracked coil packs, dead spark plug, earth chassis terminal expanding.

again seeing as it only happens when warm....and the car runs fine from cold... i dont think its something like a faulty/low output fuel pump.

i could really do with a list of every sensor thats used once the car is upto tempreture.

also forgot to mention but there is no difference when i unplug the green temp sensor.

im not sure how much help all this will be.

for the past 4 days its been behaving itself.... :S

after fitting those 3 new sensor on the weekend, o2,tps, map....i did an ecu reset...on the test drives on sat and sun, the problem was still there.

i didnt drive it monday as i was ill, but tuesday to friday shes been nie on perfect.

ive read about it taking a while for an ecu reset to "settle", ive somewhat experienced this with my xsi last year....but that problem was a dieing idle coming to a stop....which seemed to fix itself a few days after some cleaning and sensors were changed. (icv and map i think)

my new worry is bitdeath of the chips in the ecu. each time the ecu resets its gotta rewrite the 0s and 1s and ive heard they can get "le-tired"

i imagine if i reset my ecu again, and the problem re-appears, its something to do with its learning period being dicky.

a new green temp sensor turned up today, which will mean another ecu reset Big grin
so i guess i might have some more insight in a few days.

well well well.....i fitted the new green temp sensor today....did an ecu reset.

i have been for one test drive and the car seems to be fine now, runs ok. Big grin

I tested the old sensor..... it seemed to get more and more out of spec the hotter it got....so i guess that was the culprit. it only eventually reached about 600ohms in boiling water.

however, now im not sure if my rad fans are playing ball though. i thought they were supposed to come on slow at 90(series) and fast at 100 (parrallel)
however, they seem to only come on slow at 100 which will bring it down to just above 90 and then they turn off.

the whole coolant temperature situation has got me a bit confuddled n all now. in traffic/standstill it will get upto and between 90-100, but on the move it will sit at 78-79. (i will have to have a search/read on here)

i havnt changed the thermostat yet as my car running cold is what meant i could get to work in the 15-20 minutes before it got upto temp and started playing up.

i guess thats next on the list.

2nd test drive on sunday today.

seemed to be a bit misfiery/lacking from cold for all of 30-40 seconds then it cleared up and was great the rest of the drive.
My above temperature situation is normal according to many posts on here. so no worries about that.

i imagine the "new" "from cold" problem is down to a poor spray pettern.....either caused by a clogged injector/s or the fuel pump isnt quite giving enough pressure for a proper spray pattern. or both.

ill see how this weeks commutes go and report back.

5 days of commute and all seems to be ok.

not so bad from cold anymore aswell. still feels a little lacking for the first 30-40 seconds.

new thermostats on the way as she does appear to run rather cold and still takes 15-20 minutes to fully warm up.

the only other "problem" is i still think its overfueling or not burning fully or something like that. it sounds like every now and then there's a little crackle and pop in the exhaust. usually from changing gear after some high reving.

im not sure if i want to fix that one as it does sound rather saucey Razz

should i?

everythings been ok for a months now.... then today twice on the way home from work the engine has become non responsive.....cutting out the second time.

turns out (i think) my induction filter kit was pressing up against the plug/loom for the throttle position sensor Sad

the wires outer sheaths are still intact... so i dont think it was shorting against the chrome metal of the induction kit....but that means there may be some internal break inside the wires Sad

it appears to be fixed.....(ive bent the indiction kit to not hit the wires)

HOWEVER...... im worried theres an internal break thats just pressing against each other.....and this can go "poop" at any point in time. (or less so its causing performance issues)

before i go investgating under the wire sheaths

would a break in one of the throttle wires result in the engine becoming non responsive and dieing?
