Hi all

My 1st gear is popping out, it feels as if something is hitting the linkages and knocking it out but even with the linkages off and 1st selected it pops out as you rock the car back and forth. All the time your throttling in 1st its fine when the clutch goes down that's when it happens.

Was apparently a good gearbox, obviously not. synchro issue right?

thanks

No crunching or noises until it pops out. It pops out half way so you then get noise from the synchro not meshing properly. No noises whilst driving and all the time you have throttle it will stay in.

Have you checked your engine mounts? In particular the lower mount.

Contaminated gearbox oil, worn syncros inside the transmission, or improperly adjusted shift linkages are very common reasons. The other being gearbox/engine mounts. What can also be a problem is if you have fitted the quick change gear selector if it is improperly installed or goes out of adjustment. The off throttle is the more usual moment for this problem to occur.
