Has anyone ever tried a 90 degree silicone bend as replacement of the filler neck of the fuel tank?

The OEM one under my GTI has perished...

Okay... needed to take 5mm of the new one (looks different than the old one) and it is finally on! Did not use the old clips as they were a PITA when fitting the neck. Used jubilee clips instead.
