Hi all,

My car has just developed a misfire. It's slight on idle and not too bad revving in neutral, but gets worse under load. There is a strong smell of fuel out of the exhaust too. I'm guessing it's ignition related: coil pack or associated wiring, maybe plugs but they are just a few weeks old.

I have just ordered a set of coil packs from pug_306 and TBH I haven't done any real investigating as it's dark.

No other issues, gauges behave normally, coolant level and temps fine etc.

I will dig around a bit tomorrow by pulling coil pack plugs.

I know it is hard to say but do you think I am looking in the right direction?

I would stick a new set of plugs in if your changing the coil packs buddy but it's more than likely a coil pack at fault.

Update....replaced coil packs and plugs, still the same. Car is now with my mechanic for compression test

TBH mate I didn't. I picked the coil packs up on my way home today, thanks for the excellent service as always, and it was a race between me and the failing light to get them fitted. Would have liked to do a better job diagnosing the problem but also had the hard deadline of my mechanic closing for the day and not being able to get a courtesy car.

Picked the car up today. Head gasket had failed between cylinders. Had full cambelt kit and water pump fitted at same time. She lives on
