Hey all,

I am slowly working on getting my throttle bodies fitted to my car and building the inlet manifold with my cousin. What are peoples' thoughts on this clearance? (I know there is no rad in there at the moment).

We are thinking we need to go back about another 10mm and it may be hard to see from the pictures but the bodies are lower than the PAS pump.

Any help would be highly appreciated! Thumbs up

that looks fine, bolt them on and see how it goes, whats the length of the tract from the valve?

bolting the filter backplate on offset and upside down will give more clearance too.

oh, you're making the inlet yourself, you could save a lot of messing about by just getting a satchell inlet...

Thanks WP.

Ha yes I know but that wouldn't be budget now would it!

I am not putting injectors in the bodies however I could still look to put them upside down.

Are there any particular filters I should go for? Ones that are good for saving space? I am not sure how much height and length a filter is likely to add

If anything it looks as if you might struggle for bonnet clearance rather than rad?

A fair bit I think - will depend on filter type though. You've got to imagine how a base plate is sized around the intake holes. I've had a look through my pics, but haven't got a clear one of that. Could sort something tonight.

if those are 90mm trumpets you need one of the deepest itg jc50 filters or a stepped backplate and a shallower one.

satchell inlet is only £180, and they fit Wink

I can't help much more as I'm not sure what the 306 bonnet is like compared to the zx but the slam pannel appears to be in exactly the same spot so you could have a look at my pics for a rough idea, I have shorter bodies though, and shorter trumpets to suit my engine build, but still the massive filter as I found it on ebay cheap Big grin

This was mine with 90mm trumpets which for me was far to close to the rad

I'm the end I got a custom rad made up

If I were to do again I'd go down the route of a 205 rad to gain room

Thanks guys.

WP yes agreed but this manifold will hopefully cost me about £40 and all the 'fun' of being part of the build....I'll look up the filters and have a look around Smile

Thanks Blandy, those photos really help.

I have always found it hard to get a definitive answer on the 205 rad route all I found was:

1. Get a 205 rad
2. Get a 205 expansion tank
3. Get special hoses (couldn't find the ones?)
4. Fitment, custom brackets I think?

205 rad setup is whatever you can make fit, im using one and made the bracket myself, got Dave at Satchell to weld up the pipe adapters and used whatever bits of hose I had lying about and a donated radiator Big grin

Michael I want that rad! Spoke to Chris at Pro-Alloy about it actually after we chatted about it (thanks for the steer).. Unfortunately they never kept a pattern of it, so they'll need to start again, but it's still something I'd like to get done so I can fit my airbox, but maybe later in the year now.

Anyway Sergio, here's some pics for you to refer to. Hope they help in some shape or form.
Cheers
Iain

Thanks all for the pictures these really help. I think I am going to go for a standard rad and just shorten the inlet slightly (I know I will get less torque) just to make this simpler.

Guys did you have to relocate your PAS pumps? I heard you can just about fit them in...

Mines relocated - I can't really comment on the requirement other than it always seems to be done on cars with TB's.
If you need one I have a brand new Rich relocation set up available for sale, still in box never fitted. I purchased mine for my old car, but this one had already been done when I bought the car.

I believe it'll work fine with standard pas pump with the tps mounded flywheel side, historically I think the issues arose from the Jenvey inlets being so short.

I have the early non ac XU10 brackets on mine though with it being pre J4R/RS era, possibly not as good as the later setup without an AC pump as it makes it difficult to route oil cooler hoses.

Ok thanks again. I think i just need to find the slimmest air filter now - they are surprisingly hard to Google as i cannot find a term that people describe throttle body air filters as consistently!

I need to buy one and see how it looks really
