Hello,

My name is Joep and I live in the Netherlands. Ever since I was a little kid and joined my dad when he bought his first Peugeot, I was dreaming of owning a Peugeot myself once.

Dream car: a Peugeot 306 XSI/GTI6 Blue Sigma.

About 10 years ago I bought my very first car, a '96 306 Blue Sigma XSI 2.0 8v. So, dream car in the pocket Smile

After 5 years, it broke down due to a water pump of low quality. Engine was lost... But at that same evening, a '98 Rouge Lucifer Mk 2.5 306 GTI6 was sold. As this car was serviced every year by the best garage for fast Peugeots, it was a no-brainer. Bought it immediately!

The XSI was stalled until I had a decent place to work on the car. In the meantime, someone offered me a RFS engine plus 6-speed gearbox. Perfect for the XSI! And so, project XSI6 was born. This will become a track-day car.

The GTI is now also a project. Paint is bad and the whole car will get a new paint job a.s.a.p. Same colour as it has to be able to become 100% OEM again.

Further projects: A Mk 1 306 convertible that has it's front end changed to a Mk 3 front end. And a Peugeot 405 Pikes Peak tribute car.

Here are some pictures of the 306's. I will post more later. Especially pictures from the XSI6 project.

I will fix the broken images later today. Not sure why they are not showing.

You dream big! LOL

I hope they live up to your expectations....so long as those expectations are poor quality construction and the constant fear of parts breaking and falling off. All joking aside, I wish you well for your project and I look forward to reading more about it, especially when you get it resprayed etc. Hopefully you can get your pics sorted out as well.

Well, I do dream big: Owning a perfect 205 GTI 1.9, 309 GTI16, and Mk 1 405 Mi16 besides the 306 GTI6 and XSI6. That is my big car dream...

But you will not hear me complain when there is a Ferrari or a Lamborghini on the driveway Wink

As for the pictures: fixed.

Today I made some agreements with the repair and paint shop. After March they have time to work on my GTI6. Therefore, during the next weeks I strip the GTI so that they can start working immediately.

I will make some good pictures so that everyone can follow the change of the car from a mk 2.5 to mk 3.

When the car is being repainted, I will continue on the convertible and XSI6.

Started with stripping the GTI.

Changes that will be made to the car:
1 - Bump strips will be phase 3;
2 - Tailgate will be phase 3;
3 - Fog lights will be phase 3.

New parts already in:
1 - Grille + hockey sticks;
2 - Logo;
3 - Tailgate lock;
4 - Headlights;
5 - Fog lights;
6 - Bump strips;

Furthermore, the airbox will get a paint job. Will do this myself.

First parts to come off; bumpers.

Wheels off:

Spacer was very hard to remove, will buy new ones...

Mud guards were still fitted with original screws. Will use new screws when putting the car back together:

Bumper and headlights removed. Only the grille remained for now. Was fitted with unknown weird screws.

s**t happens no. 1:

Screws and thread of airbox was rusted and the nut came off with a part of the thread...

Spacer removed and car put back on cyclones:

Look tiny in contrast to the Rinjani's! Also, mirrors, indicator lights, and bump strips removed.

Turned the car around to continue at the rear. Mudguard at the left was easy to remove. Bit dusty...:

s**t happens no. 2:

I thought the rear bumper was fitted the same as the front bumper, so I pulled... until it snapped.

By the looks of it this happened before. Still in doubt if I will buy a spare or just use polymax to bond the pieces together.

Did not know I had to unscrew these nuts to have it removed:

s**t happens no. 3:

Mudguard at the right side broke while removing it from the wheel arch. Already bought a brand new one.

Never had to struggle to get the rear lights out. Seems someone used some sort of silicone kit:

This is how I left the car after one day of stripping it:

And it went to bed covered in a blanket:

The next day:

Door handle removal. First I had to remove the door cards.

Made some pictures to see how it was constructed.

Removed the lock.

In contrast to what I was told, this was easy. Putting it back in was also very easy.

Next up, the fuel cap cover and the fake one on the other side. No access to any nuts from the inside.

Black piece of plastic came of easily.

Fuel cap cover was a more difficult story.

At this side, also no access to nuts/bolts visible.

In the end, I found them... No easy access Sad

There was hardly any space for a wrench, but eventually, I managed to have the cap removed.

Bumpstrips: just pull!

A lot of dirt behind the strips.

Then I saw these rivets and pins.

They hold this piece of plastic in place.

Anyone any idea what this is?

Continued with antenna as during this session I could sit to relieve my back.

Unfortunately, the previous owner removed it with violence thereby breaking a few clips.

Thought the antenna would be kept in place by more than one tiny nut.

After the removal of the antenna, I continued with the side skirts. The rivets are a nightmare! Could not use a drill to remove them, so I used a Dremel tool. Still have to remove the remains of the rivets.

Looks worse than it is.

Eventually, first skirt removed.

Furthermore:

Tail gate lock

Washer jets

Seals

Rear windows and seals are also already removed. What is left to do:
- removing rivets;
- skirt driver side;
- plastic blocks inside the doors;
- letters;
- removing carpet before welding;
- removing grille from front bumper.

After this I will call the repair and paint shop to pick up the car.

In the meantime I also made an inventory what more I have laying around in my home:

- newer door cards;
- newer tail gate lock;
- newer logo to put on bonnet;
- newer grille;

Good work. Keep going with the updates. Breaking stuff that has never been dismantled since the factory 18 years ago and now covered in rust/salt/grime is inevitable.

Full respray - you are dedicated, great to see.
