I'm thinking of putting a 1.9 diesel crank into a s16 block with pistons and rods and a gti6 head iv read quit a bit about it but some are saying you need to skim 1mm off the pistons and others are saying just fit them as they are also what thickness of head gasket would be best to run any help would be much appreciated

do a dry build with standard gaskets after the head has been refreshed, measure the chamber and height to deck of the piston.
confirm valve clearance etc

check the duration of your chosen canshafts add it all up and see what you need to take off.
