Its about time I upgraded the suspension on the 306, just fit some new boots, and the original suspension is old tired and leaky. Does currently have fk coilovers and a rebuilt beam by a lad on this forum (unsure who). Think Stan dropped it and collected it before I got the car.

Budget about a grand, seen gaz golds, ast 4100s, avo gtx (which look great value), kw v2s, and then possibly add some adjustable top mounts. Cars mainly used on the roads when I have time but I am going to get it out onto the track at some point.

Thanks for the help.

pre-story for my advice, first car and i have had little experience so take this with plenty of salt Thumbs up Spax RSX if you go for the track I like being able to do adjustments by just laying on the ground or popping the hood, a warning with these beware the preload, lowering of the vehicle is highly recommended to reduce this. if it's more of a maybe one day I'll get to the track thing - I semi-regret not getting the Bilstein Eibach set, just put them in and off you go apparently amazing for road use.

I've got KW V2's on my track car, i'd probably not really recommend them for a daily driver. They're alright for what they are, and do their job on track. I'd probably not justify paying retail price on them though, wait for a set to come up second hand for around £4-500.

If its almost all road use, why go for adjustable top mounts? You'll kill tyres much quicker and you shouldnt really be pushing a car hard enough to need the extra camber on pubic roads.

I havent tried the Bilstein / Eibach setup personally but almost everyone raves about it for a fast road setup, might be worth considering as suggested above.

From what i gather reading on here, you might aswell go the whole hog if you're wanting coilovers and get some really decent ones, Dennis (russian guy) had some Black Art Designs ones on his track car and couldnt recommend them enough, reckoned on the roads the ride was nicer than his BMW and on track they performed excellently too. IIRC they came in at around £3k though.

I've got KW V1 Innox on my car and really like them, especially on bumpy back roads. Firm but compliant is how i would describe them. Another GTI6 owner with expensive suspension drove my car and described the suspension as 'mint' which made me happy. Only paid £375 for them

I like my bridgecraft engineering adjustable top mounts, they're a work of art and are machined in a way that allows the car to be low but have a decent amount of damper travel. Still, extra camber does wear the tyres a fair amount if the car does a lot of road miles.

I've got spax rsx coilovers and gaz gold rears and at Brandshatch and Prescott Hill they were awesome. I had no issues and was not messing about. For the money they are hard to beat. Fresh rear mounts are a must as are all new other suspension bushes to make the most of anything you put on.

I've had Bilstein & Eibach setup & they are amazing ...but had Group N rears in the 205 section from KAM racing to match with 21 Tbs ...lovely on the road also ..best for money I've used by far Thumbs up

I've now copied Russain Guy & got Black Art Design fronts with his own Russain Guy top mounts & Bilstein group A rears from KAM racing 205 section & 21tb with 30Arb ....forget the 30Arb for the road ...terrible but the rest I think you would be hard pushed to beat without spending £4-5k on road & track ...I'm sure people who have been in my car now ....may say how much spend I can take through the corners now Thumbs up
Black Art Design arnt cheap & are made to order ....

They would have to be coilovers as the car is fairly low. The car has only done about 2500 miles in 5 years! The black art design ones look mega but think they are 2k plus. Are the ast/bad design a lot better than your other makes then? All seem to be 1 way adjustable

From what I gather you get what you pay for when it's comes to suspension.
I can't complain about my KW's, my mate has gaz golds which he likes. There wasn't much between us at trackdays when we had similar setups.
I feel my KW's could do with stiffer springs and then revalving to suit, but mine only really gets used on trackdays, if it was for every day use Id probably want softer springs on it.
The thing that would put me off gaz golds is the tendency for surface corrosion.

I seem to remember Adam used to like ast, although I can't remember if he went off them in the end or someone else didn't rate them.
Like most stuff, things mentioned on here are subjective, some may like one product whilst others like another. Everyone used to rave about how great rainsport 2's were so I got a set, I hated them and basically gave them away.

I've set my BAD 1ways & I've never touched them yet ?....don't get caught up in ajusting suspension to much m8 ...lots of things make big differences to handling I've found ....tyre pressures / Tyres / ARBs / torsion bars / weight distribution/ etc ....

The ast 5200 come in at just shy of 1500, seem similar spec to the avo gtx which are 900. ast top mounts are a further 350, and the baker adjustable top mounts 210.

Black art designs sound mega but they are 2500 all in.

What happened to Curtis in the UK? I know you always used to say he was the man to go to? I rang him and found he had little interest in what I wanted more what he wanted to sell. Are the dutch far better to deal with?
